Famous bun

We went to have an early lunch just before 11:30am. Few restaurant opened in Bugis Junction even at 11:20am. People play late at night and wake up late. Lunch time is shifted after 1:00pm or later. Majority is like this. So, minority has to follow the custom here without complaints.

Anyway this restaurant was opened and several customers were having lunch (or brunch) already. My wife was not a mood for dim sum but I forced her to go in. No choice other than junk food like MacDonald's.

We ordered a big soup bun with crab meat, vegetable xiao long bao, spring roll, Shanghai fried rice and fried pumpkin cake.

Interior is unified with bright color (mostly white) and looks neat and tidy. Kitchen has glass wall surrounded and we can see how chefs are cooking there. Kitchen inside also seems to be tidy. 3 chefs were working at that time.

Table is a bit small to have several dishes at one time though, it is acceptable.

A soup bun with crab meat, with chef's recommendation mark in the menu, was very nice. Straw was put into a bun and we sip a soup inside. Taste is dense with crap roe essence and deep. I love it. However, 2 points disappointed me. One: very difficult to sip a soup by straw especially such a hot liquid. My tongue was almost burned. Second: Bun itself was not tasty. It was used just for a soup bawl. It was dried and stiff. A soup bun may be like that if bun skin is thin. However, it can be better, I think.

Vegetable xiao long bao is OK but not punching me. Meat is less and I felt something missing. My wife preferred it to normal xiao long bao.

Spring roll was quite normal and OK. Not to mention details.

Shanghai fried rice was different from any other fried rice. Looks like normal. Rice and green vegetables. A bit salty and oily but light. Wmmm, it was simple and not bad. I could not find any other word to explain.

Pumpkin cake was as many of you can imagine. Not bad but we can have better one in another restaurant.

That's all we had.

When we went out, seats were almost full. Around 12:45pm. There were not so many customers in the restaurant around there as Nan Xiang steamed bun restaurant. Lunch time just started.
