Cheap Sushi

99 cents for a plate of sushi.. Cheap! But don't expect anything more.. the rice falls off quite easily..

their ala carte items are not so cheap tho'.. their shishamo looks so malnutritioned.. not enough roe on their stomach.. *sigh*

I was asking my hubby why must I pay them 10% service charge when I have to get the sushi myself, go get the ice-cream sticks myself, and leave the restaurant smelling of BBQ..

Another thing is that their green tea is not refillable.. since they charge 80 cents for a cup of green tea, why can't they just give me the tea bag and refill my cup with hot water?

Pizza

Came across this place accidentally while I was around Holland area. Very easy to find, it's just along the stretch of shops/banks (DBS and POSB).

Was not very hungry, so only tried the minced beef pizza. At $4 a slice, approx 15 x 15cm, I think it's quite worth it. It's filled 100% of the crust with beef and cheese. Noticed that they have set meals, $5 for a piece of pizza and choice of soft drink too.

The place is non-airconditioned, so felt quite hot inside. Think it's because of the oven. Unless it's cool outside, I think I will take-away my food.

The lady there is quite kind. I requested for her to cut my slice of pizza into quarters and she obliged with a smile :)

Will go back to try their other stuff on the menu soon..

Desserts

They are famous for their ginger boiled milk, but I'm not a 'ginger' person, so I didn't try that. But according to my hubby and mum-in-law, it's very very good.

I will always order the walnut cream with a layer of 'milk skin'. They call it 'shuang1 pi2 nai3'. You can order it with walnut, almond, black sesame or peanut cream (cannot remember if there are others). The layer of 'skin' on top of your cream keeps it warm while you slowly enjoy your dessert. It's so soft and has a slight milky taste to it (not too overwelming). The cream is also very healthy, not too sweet like the other places I've tried.

They were used to be a few shops away from their current place. It seemed bigger at their old premises. They installed aircon at their new place now, so the enclosed area may have seemed smaller to me.

Must Tries: Boiled Ginger Milk

Delicious Durian Cake

Hubby took half day off to go get a durian cake and chocolate cake for Mother's Day at Jane's..

The durian cake was good, the durian puree was a very thick layer, sandwiched by 2 layers of cake.. so sinful.. yum yum.. best eaten chilled.

The chocolate cake was so soft.. melts in your mouth kind.. mmm..

Did not go there personally, so dunno about the ambience and service.. they do not sell the cake in slices, have to buy whole cakes.. actually asked hubby to get a whole durian cake and a slice of the chocolate cake for me to sample.. in the end, got 2 whole 1kg-cakes..

The durian cake cost $36 and the chocolate cake cost $28.

Must Tries: Durian Cake, Chocolate Cake

Yummy Bread

This is the place where I will be if I happen to go Holland V.. order a nice cup of coffee, and some sandwiches (bacon/lettuce or american club).. mmmm.. thinking of it makes me hungry now..

I will always takeaway a loaf of the chocolate bread.. so fluffy and the chocolate is rich.. not those kind that is diluted or just there for the colour.. can ask the staff there to help slice it for you :) very helpful staff.. but must go there early.. very fast sold out.. (alamak! now that more pple know about this delicious bread, will sell out faster.. must make standing order leow)

Can also try the Choco and Cream Wassant.. they are bite-sized bread shaped like croissant.. but soft and fluffy.. best when eaten warm..

Must Tries: Chocolate Loaf, Cream and Choco Wassant

Huge Claws!

Besides Uncle Leong Seafood, this is the other place I'll go to satisfy my crab cravings..

Their sri lankan crabs are so huge! the claw (just the part with the meat) alone is about the size of my palm.. the meat is so sweet.. went there so many times, and not a time i leave disappointed..

Can try their steam promfets, sambal 'tua tao' (mussel), prawn paste chicken.. so many things to eat..

really must call them early early to make reservations.. if too busy, they may not even have staff to answer your calls..

they accept visa, so don't need to bring too much cash ;)

Must Tries: Chilli Crab, Black Pepper Crab

Dim Sum Yummy!

had been their supporter since 10+ years ago..

still like the concept of your dim sum coming in push carts.. service staff asking if you would like 'har kow' (steamed prawn dumplings), 'siew mai' (steamed pork dumplings) or 'feng zhao' (braised chicken claws)..

must try their century egg porridge.. i'm not a porridge person, but this is the only porridge that i'll eat.. their bacon rolls and the fried silver fish are our 'must order'

my mum especially loved this place.. the staff there are very friendly.. you can also apply for their VIP cards in case you do not have UOB or HSBC credit cards.. application is free and can be done thru their website..

Must Tries: century egg with lean meat porridge, fried silver fish, bacon roll, har kow, siew mai, feng zhao

disappointed

tried the one in yu yuan in shanghai.. the sg one not that nice.. the crab roe is so minimal.. the big 'xiao long bao' (the one with the straw) not as juicy.. and if i'm not wrong, it seems smaller than the one in china..

but if you happen to go to shanghai, must go and try their outlet there!! cannot miss the long queue.. if dun wan to queue, go to the second, third or forth floor.. but must spend a minimum amount of dollars.. can't remember how much.. but not expensive..

back to the one at bugis junction.. the service is so-so.. sent wrong items.. ordered a xiaolongbao with crab.. couldn't find a piece of crab meat in it.. so asked them to check with kitchen.. then they realised they sent the wrong basket.. aiyoh.. if blur blur just eat everything sure kena cheated one.. better take small bites next time okay? :) cos it's quite confusing.. they all look the same..

tried the xiaolongbaos from crystal jade, dingtaifeng, lao beijing and nanxiang.. favourite one is from lao beijing.. juicier and the skin is not too thick.. still a tunglok fan ;)

Fries Phobia!!

Oh My! The portions are BIG!! hubby got so phobic of fries afterwards that he refused to even eat McDonald's fries :D
Food was ok, ordered Cajun Chicken and the Lamb Chop.. the chop had too much bones tho.. had to take away a whole box of fries and a piece of my cajun chicken..
but heard that the burgers there are good.. may go there again.. depends on when hubby will get over his phobia.. will ask for more coleslaw in place of the fries :)
Must go early early!!

Favourite Restaurant

Simply luv this place.. a must try is their TLC - Tender Loving Care (Blackpepper Beef). As the name tells you, the meat is tenderly delicous!
Also the desserts are interesting.. with the effect of dry ice..
The prices are a bit steep though.. cannot afford to go there too often :(

*updates*
went again last weekend.. their codfish with sake sauce is yummy! we also had the wasabi prawns, seafood soup in coconut shell, herbal chicken soup (soup of the day), TLC, spinach tofu, seafood fried rice, coconut ice cream with pumpkin sauce (hubby), latte ice cream with avocado (me and mum-in-law)

our total bill was 220+, but since i got the tunglok uob visa and my b-day is round the corner, got 50 bucks knocked off *YEAH*

thinking of when i can go there again ;)

if you are seriously thinking of going there, must make reservations (I made mine more than a week in advance) or else may end up sitting at The Space @ Humble House.. which is not so bad.. you can order from both sets of menu ;)
