| Yummy food!
The week started just perfect with a very good dinner among friends. I am usually not a big fan of Spanish food, but after checking out the reviews here and saw the picture of the paella, I just had the biggest craving.
While deciding on what to eat we started off with the red wine sangria. It was the best sangria I have ever had away from poolside in Spain! Perfect mixture of the wine, soft drink and fruit, yum.
We started with a mixed platter cheese, sausages and ham. Ok, but not spectacular. My friends also ordered some tapas and the one that stood out was the oven baked eggplant, very tasty! And a big serving too. The other tapas was the meatballs and crabmeat/avocado mush, ok, but not fantastic. Service at the beginning was a bit slow due to many guests but picked up as the evening went along and the free flow of bread to go with the tapas was a nice touch.
But now to the main, the paella. I ordered the special which has plenty of seafood which I love. But what was the best was the very rich and tasty rice. It had been beautifully crafted by a pro! Strong flavour of seafood, chicken and the sausage, melting in my mouth. Double yum. Unfortunately, my friend had the vegetarian paella and it was as plain as mine was perfect.
After that we were too full for dessert but still had some sangria to enjoy before the evening was over.
The ambience is not that fantastic, average looking decco and could have been mistaken for any kind of lunch place. Not breathing the heat and warmth a Spanish restaurant should, needs work.
To summarize; perfect drink, not memorable tapas and perfect paella. Will definitely be back when the craving calls for paella. |

| Hit & miss
Here it goes, I have heard good things about this place so decided to try it out with two other foodies for a casual mid week dining.
I was not disappointed, had the carpaccio for starters and it was great. It was not as thinly sliced as one is used to but the flavours were perfect. Plenty of parmesan on top, not too much ruccola and the just the perfect balance of lemon, olive oil and salt & pepper. My friends had carpaccio and a ruccola salad, both happy.
I decided to go for a house specialty, the crab linguine. The serving was humongous! It could actually have served two without any problem. And this is unusual considering pasta to be the middle course between the starter and the main. I could never have had a main after that portion. And for the food, very tasty. Plenty of crab meat and nice flavour. Pasta cooked just right. Only drawback was that is was slightly too oily. The others had a pasta with bacon and cheese - have much nicer names in Italian but I forget... It was also good but very rich, same size of portion and could not be finished. And the third one had cod. This was also very good. Fish was firm and tasty and again, plenty! Two whole pieces and could not be finished!
After dinner we received a tiramisu on the house, very nice touch and indeed yummy. But since we were so full we could almost not enjoy it.
I then decided to bring my family to visit this eatery since I had such a pleasant first experience. Called and booked just an hour before opening and was pleasantly surprised that they had a table outside for us. Perfect.
But the meal was not. First we got some bread, it was not baked enough and with a strong taste of dough. We skipped that. Hubby ordered the carpaccio since I had been raving about it, it was still very good, as good as I remembered it to be. For mains we had the ravioli and lasagna all dishes to be shared with the children. Unfortunately I had not observed that the ravioli came in cream sauce, my mistake though. But the sauce was way too salty. The ravioli was good though. Size wise this was more average as one could expect, probably like 8 pieces or so. The lasagna was very good, just crunchy on top and soft and yummy in the inside. If any complaints it could have been a little more salt. Which funnily made it a perfect combo with the ravioli as we had both on the plate!
The meal was overall good but then we had a very misfortunate ending of the dining experience. The place started to get busy and more and more guests started to arrive. A family with two kids arrived and they had to wait for a while. The manager/owner (?) came out and asked us if he could take one of our tables (two small ones attached) for the family. As we were also four you could simply just change the seating and fit four onto the smaller table, a little squeezed but ok. The problem was that we told the manager that we were actually just finishing up. We were going to be out of there in 5 min so could they just wait? Well, the answer was no because he already started pulling the tables apart interrupting one of our children's meals and literally moving her while eating! The waiting family got very embarrast and asked if they could wait for us to finish. By then the situation could not be saved, we made arrangements to pay and leave. As my hubby thought the dinner had ended in a very abrupt and unfortunate was he asked to speak to the manager. He came out and did not really get why we upset. It was not the fact that we had to share, it was the way it had been done. He did apologise and said he was planning on treating us for a dessert, which de declined as we already felt we had been pushed out + wanted to go back home. He still did not get it when we told him that he did not honour our request, instead it seemed like the other company was very important guests to the restaurant. Well so are we.... or should I put it was. Probably not going back which is unfortunate as the food is good. But with that kind of service attitude from the management, I feel no need to try it again. |

| Pleasant dining
Went there for a Friday dinner and the place was full. Considering it being very busy we still got good service. No complaints there.
Cold cuts and carpaccio for starters. The cold cuts was ok, nothing exceptional except for the parma ham which was divine. Melted in my mouth. The carpaccio was also nice, very thinly sliced but not enough salt & pepper which took a while to get.
It was the main that was the star of the show. We had pizza which was average. Nothing special but nice salami but the crust was a bit too thick to my liking. And then lamb rack, and it was perfect! Perfectly grilled, medium rare and it was. Not too much salt and pepper, just right. One of the best I have had in Singapore and I love lamb!
The very helpful staff also picked a good wine to go with the dinner, and even offered a half bottle as we usually don't finish a bottle. As a matter of fact, they did not have a wine list so this was very much a personalised experience.
We were too full to have any desserts but had a coffee and will definitely be back to try out their desserts another time. |

| Disappointed
Had dinner there the other night with hubby. Got of on the wrong foot as the starter - Portobello mushrooms - he wanted was sold out (at 8 pm) and a Coldstorage downstairs....
I started with some fried tofu w papaya salad, and it was not what I had thought it be. The papaya was actaully pickled and I'm pretty sure it did not mention that in the menu. Was quite tasteless and boring.
I then had the beef which was ok, but not fantastic. Hubby had escargot and something else, could it have been asparagus maybe? pasta. It was pretty bad. No flavour and the escargot tasted like they came straight out of a can...
We were by now so disappointed we left without any dessert. They seem to aim for being a French restaurant and the kind of food served was not even close to anything you would get at a cheap café anywhere in France. |

| Nice place, average food
We visited a couple of weeks ago and had a very average dining experience. Service and ambience was excellent but food is only so so in my book. Had some mussles for starter, a bit overcooked and not that much flavour. It was followed by the mushroom soup which was quite nice but not as fantastic as many raves about. Main was the rack of lamb and that was a disappointment. Quite tough meat and with a very distinct mutton flavour - not lamb... We did not stay for desserts as we did not find anything to our liking. The menu was quite big though and ok wine list. We spent about $170 incl. wine so not bad.
Again, service great and very nice setting. Hope the food picks up, then it might be a very nice neighbourhood hang out. |

| Good quality of food
Went to this Japanese restaurant with no real expectations since I had not heard about it before. The ambience is so so as it is a tough location next to a busy street (we sat outdoors) but still ok. Did not go inside so can't comment on that. Staff was a bit clueless, but what else is new. We ordered some green tea and it was served out of a really sad looking coffee pot on display, very strange.
The menu is quite big, good assortment of small dishes, sushi and then the bbq. We tried a bit of everything and was pleasantly surprised. We started with some mixed fried mushrooms, very nice. Crabmeat in cherry tomatoes, tasted nice but did not look anything like it did on the pictures in the menu, again, what else is new. We also had some sushi, salmon maki (good) and some hotate sashimi and it was very fresh and melted in my mouth. We also tried two different types of meat for the bbq a tenderloin and some pork. Both with a very nice and flavourful marinade and giving it some time on top of the coal made it heavenly.
Overall, good experience as it was good quality food for a reasonable price (not cheap or very expensive). Ambience and staff passes but barely. Will definitely go back as I love my Japanese food and it's convenient for me. |

| Sleek Thai deli - won't disappoint you!
Had dinner there the other night and was pleasantly surprised. The place was empty though and location wise it is definitely off my usual trail. But I wanted to check it out as I had read reviews about the place.
As for starters we had the mixed platter and some salad w minced chicken. All the food was good and authentic. Then we had tom yam soup, duck in red curry and some veggies to go with it. Spicy! But just right, maybe just a little to little of the duck in the curry though… Staff was very friendly and attentive, we like! Also, had a glass of wine which was a generous serving, even better. Dinner with wine $40 which is very reasonable for the quality of food and setting.
The deli was also quite nice, very cute “starting kits” of Thai food. Fresh veggies and some good Thai condiments. As for deco, the place looks very sleek and trendy. Just hope it picks up because they need the traffic – I came to wonder how long they would survive with three tables occupied for dinner on a weekday.
Even though it was a bit out of my way I will make sure to come back soon. |
