| This sugar is sweeeeet...
This little (it seats no more than 30) distinctly non-heartlander but not pretentious eatery is tucked away in the unlikeliest of places– a NTUC clubhouse. Parking is very limited here so do come early if you are swinging by in your wheels (if you have really niiice and big wheels, do drop me a note)
Both of us decided to go for the set lunch menus – a two course set will cost you $23 while the three course one would be $27. Unbeatable value for the fare (and you do get a fair variety) on offer. While my lunch kaki had the soft shell salad and a rib eye, I opened with a mushroom soup– it’s the real deal –not some pre-processed, pre heated muck, my main was the crab linguine and I capped off the roundly satisfying meal with vanilla panna cotta.
I couldn’t quibble with the food and ambience (although the relative calmness was broken by very loud, rambunctious laughter which came from a table of middle aged men- you would think that the older they are, the better behaved they would be).
In all, the meal relaxed and satiated me quite nicely that I almost forgot that I had to schlep it back to the office later.
Despite there being only two servers to contend with the full capacity lunch crowd, they were quick with the orders. If they were feeling harassed, they didn’t look it all- there were no furrowed brows but only smiles all around. Whatever is it that the servers are on, I want it too! The overall good vibes from the food and the servers were infectious – my workday scowl only crept in around 4 pm. |

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on Brown Sugar! We're glad you enjoyed yourself at our little bistro. Just to let you know, as part of my personal preference to support fresh local produce grown by passionate entrepreneurs, we are now talking with a local organic mushroom farm at Seletar, Mycofarm, to source for delicious organically homegrown, freshly harvested mushrooms for our new mushroom soup (to be introduced soon), which will feature a delicious blend of three types of oyster mushrooms, willow, shitake and abalone. Hope to see you then!
