Disappointing

I must be the rare exception here but I did not enjoy my meal at The Nautilus Project at all.

I ordered the herbed yellow fin tuna ($34++), I had it done medium well, instead of the medium rare they recommended. Well, it might be my mistake for having it done medium well, I personally thought that the "meat" was extremely tough. Almost like chewing rubber. As I mentioned, I requested for my fish to be done medium well, but it seemed like they overcooked the fish. I'm a little squemish about rare tuna but I like it partially cooked and tender. The yellowfin tuna I was served didn't have the tenderness and juiciness of nicely cooked fish and it didn't have that natural sweetness and fresh taste, good quality fish is supposed to have. I wonder if the chefs know that medium well =/= overcooked fish with rubbery texture. I've read reviews praising the freshness and quality of the seafood served at The Nautilus Project but sadly, that was not what I felt about their seafood.

Texture aside, I thought that the fish had absolutely no taste at all, I really wish I were exaggrating but I seriously think they forgot to put in the salts/seasoning. I've tasted hospital food and even that is more flavourful than this. I'm not one who likes extremely salty food but really, this was so utterly bland tasting, I ate with with chilli sauce (those bottled types kids normally eat with their fries) and that made it a tad more edible. Because hey, eating sweet chilli sauce is better than eating rubber?

It was a chore finishing up my portion. Tell me, how does one manage to finish up some rubbery matter with absolutely no taste whatsoever? But I pressed on, thinking of the $34++ price tag. Eventually, I gave up. I figured it was no point forcing myself to eat something I didn't enjoy at all.

I really wanted to like The Nautilus Project. The ambience is excellent, spacious, brightly lit, well ventilated and quiet. I thought the food here would be good, judging by the reviews but I was disappointed. I dunno. Others seemed to enjoy their meals very much so I could be the unlucky one with a bad batch?

The only saving grace of my horrible (a personal opinion) meal was the exquisite presentation. The food was served in a stylish manner, making it SEEM (I emphasize, SEEM) appetizing.

I rated "Value" 1/10 because the prices were high considering the quality and tastes of the food. If the food was better, it would have warranted a higher rating.

Service was good. My glass of ice water was refilled without asking. They brought me the chilli sauce even before I asked for it (haha, maybe they themselves know that the food is tasteless?).

What a pity, the food was frankly, bad. This would have been a wonderful place if the food was better. Maybe if you have hypertension and need to control your salt intake?

I will not be back.

Disclaimer: Everything here is my personal and truthful opinion about this place. Do understand that no two tastebuds are alike and how I feel about a restaurant's food may be different from how another feels about the same food.
