| A fondue that intimidates?
If you visit Coffee Club enough, you'll notice that they've revamped their menus. The colours are brighter, they've added a whole host of new selections to the pages, and of course, the prices have gone up accordingly.
Except for the fresh fruits fondue. It cost $12.90 before the revamp, and it costs $12.90 even after.
I ordered the fresh fruits fondue from here once, over a year ago. I concluded then that it wasn't really worth the price because for how much I'd paid, I only got a meagre helpings of really minutely-diced pieces of fruit like green apples, bananas and strawberries, with teeny marshmellows, and a stingy serving of dark chocolate fondue that was in my opinion, rather thin and weak.
I'm not very sure what made me change my mind this Sunday, but I took a chance on the fresh fruits fondue again.
And boy, not only has the price remained constant, but it seems that you even get more bang for your buck, now.
The fondue was served in 2 separate plates. One plate was literally, just the fruits that would be used for dipping. You had a whole load of fresh strawberries, kiwi fruits, mangoes and bananas, all very fresh and of really good quality - this actually impressed me. I swear they must have gone over to Cold Storage the same morning to get the fruits! - and cut in chunky pieces. There were also marshmellows so humungous that I couldn't recognise them for marshmellows at first. In fact, the sheer amount of food is actually more intimidating than it is appetizing. It seems you can't order this fondue to share among 2 people as an after-meal dessert anymore, unless you either skip out on the main meal, you really love your chocolate, or you guys have enough room in your tummies for 4.
The chocolate fondue itself appeared in a separate bowl over a warmer that was at least 2 to 3 times the size of the former bowl. It was served warm this time, and it seems to me that they've changed the quality of the chocolate. Because today the chocolate was thicker, richer and definitely tasted better than it used to.
I can now safely say that you can consider this place if you're craving chocolate fondue. In my opinion, it's actually worth the $12.90 now. The only thing is that you'd better be hungry, or prepare to be intimidated. |
