So-So Food and They Don't Serve Tap Water

Sanobar has a lovely setting down on Fullerton Quay - but so do several other restaurants include Pierside which is nice. However, Sanobar's food doesn't justify the pricetag. The $100+ bottle of Shiraz we ordered tasted pretty poor, possibly because it came chilled which always irks me. However, it was the fact that they don't serve tap water which blacklisted them in my book. That's a step too far for a restaurant that doesn't have the reputation nor the execution to get away with it. If you want good Middle-Eastern try Shiraz in Clarke Quay. A bit pricier, but they have excellent kebabs, a decent wine selection and good service.

Management Response: 9 Apr 2008 Hi Steffani, thank you for your feedback, I always appreciate the opportunity to listen and respond to your opinion.

Let me try and help, we don't have a $100 shiraz on the drinks menu, we do have one shiraz which is Green Point
(Australia, Yarra Valley) stored at 18 degrees C. It is significantly priced less at only $69 so you may have the details a little inaccurate.

Steffani, if you can bring me the receipt for that day, let me offer you free lunch for 2...

We have an open buffet, different cooking everyday, you're very welcome: http://www.sanobar.com.sg/buffet_menu1.jpg

As for Shiraz at CQ, we wish them and all restaurants the very best, highest service standards ane best food for local diners to enjoy.

Regards
Nidal

actually, the better places serve red wine slightly chilled. room temperature in singapore is actually a bit too warm for wine. For $100, what did u get is the question? Wine is often quite subjective. I also don't think you should write off a place because they don't serve tap water. How's the food? You say it doesn't justify the pricetag. What did you have?

What Shiraz did you get that cost $100? What year is it?

what is bad about the food that doesn't justify the pricetag? Pls elaborate as no one can judge nor tell why is it bad just cos you say so.

$100 shiraz sounds reasonable indeed.
Im sure if $100 is a problem then you'll find the food a problem as well lol... Please elaborate because you seem you're more interested in promoting the other place.
Go to the corner kopi shop and u'd pay for a bottle of water these days :)
