| The Best Local Ice Cream Endeavor ~ *ice’s Endorsement*
Whizzed off to this ice cream hideout with The Girlfriend on a last minute whim after the most distasteful lunch ever. Those jaded taste buds badly need some mollification; hence The Ice Cream was a matter of necessity.
*Phew!*
This ice cream parlor wasn’t any surreptitious find. I have been frequenting this little sanctuary long before any Ice Cream Chefs or any U.D.D.E.R.S started to milk their cows. And Eunice seemed to be able to read my mind! Can you imagine my udders utter delight when I spotted the Salty Caramel Cheesecake flavor on display? :) Despite my many tender spots for *anything cold and has milk it!*, this new flavor really did hit the dessert spot. Salty Caramel…my latest obsession. :)
And of coz I won’t settle for anything less than a B Medium cup ($3.40). I chose this current fetish and the very time-honored Vanilla. I believe if any place can do the simple vanilla well, the way I like it, this place deserves my many good words. And that will only mean many returns too. The Salty Caramel flavor is not so salty so as to detract from the sweetness of the caramel. The caramello richness is pleasingly mellowed by the soupcon of salt…sweet and salty all at once…both flavors serve to augment each other’s deliciousness. The Vanilla was creamy but not cloying, with just the right tinge to make such a modest flavor the most elegant and gratifying dessert.
The Friend had hers in a Small cup ($2.50). She chose the Apple Pie and Butter Pecan, the former incidentally is one of customers’ favorites, the latter being the flavor of the month. She liked the apple pie coz it was daintily spiced with cinnamon and generously peppered with German shortcrust crumbles. Seriously, how can she resist ordering something that sounds so delicious? I also sampled, among many others, :p the butter pecan. Despite the whole pecans which drove me nuts (I don’t like nuts in my ice cream keke but it’s just me :p), I like the ice cream by itself coz it tasted so toffeeeee….ish…reminded me so much of my favorite sticky sweet. I am so having this for myself the next time.
Tom’s Palette’s ice cream is similar in richness and density to Italian gelato. If it makes you happier, and healthier, Eunice promises her ice cream to contain only half the sugar level (of ice creams) and replaces part of the cream with milk and natural emulsifier (egg). Here you will also be able to savor, on your lucky days, intoxicating and bold flavors like white chocolate with cranberry, cocoa stout *Phoar! Power!*, banana chocolate and lime lemongrass (eeW!) keke…signatures being chocolate in its true mode, black sesame, rum and raisin (I missed the last booze today :( ) and I’m totally enamored with the Ed’s Tea and Blueberry Cheesecake…boo hoo hoo too hot it was sold out too!
Oh did I forget to mention the Horlicks? S.W.O.O.N.
I like the earnestness and friendly feel about this place. Eunice comes forward as a very humble and amiable lady, who is happy to share with her customers, her passion in her ice cream. She also revealed, though still in the experimental phase, that really cool wholemeal Belgian Waffles are on the cards.
And thanks to Tom, whoever you are, for inspiring and standing by Eunice in her little endeavor, her pride and joy. This, which gives many dessertarians alike, yet another haven to delight in their ice cream.
This, also is one small incident that raise my happy index a wee bit. |

oh yes of coz...no ice cream can escape from me keke.
I think the horlicks at island creamery is overly rich...so much to the point that it kinda taste artificial after a while. I prefer Tom's Palette's version though. It taste less cloying and feels natural. :)
No hard feelings... just a personal preference. :)
Go try Tom's Palette if you haven't! You will fall in love with this place, the people and its ice cream instantly! Plus the service here wins Island Creamery hands down. :) |
