Will you return to this place? Not Sure

I much prefer Sushi Tei

I was really looking forward to a good lunch at Tetsu after the rave reviews from several sources. Although when it comes to Jap food, it mostly wasted on me as I haven't quited acquired the taste for sashima. So I tend to stick to the same ol' cooked food menu which doesn't quite differ much whichever Jap restaurant I go.

Wasn't exactly sure which corner Tetsu was tucked at so was pleased to be greeted by the wide inviting entrance right off the escalator coming up. Good first impression so far.

It was unlike most Jap restaurant I've seen. Nice dark wood interior with tables spread comfortably apart so you couldn't really eavesdrop on gossip at the next table even if you tried.

Quick glance over the lunch set menu and it was the usual suspects of cod, salmon, chicken or beef set. Left the selection of the side dishes to the lunch date who is, and can afford to be a bit more adventurous with the raw deal.

Started with a california hand roll. One thing about hand roll is that it can get messy if the seaweed doesn't bite off clean. This passes the bite test and you can't go really wrong as long as everything in there is fresh and nicely assembled.

As for mains, decided on the cod fish set while the friend went with a "Special sauce tuna", some seared beef thing and grilled teriyaki chicken to share.

I'm usually excited about Jap set meals coz the variety of the different foods assembled together makes me happy. Not quite this set though. The fish kind of looks too small for the plate and dare I say, I actually prefer the chawamushi from one of the local Jap restaurant chains. Think the one thing off my set that I ate with any hint of gusto was the serving of fresh salad.

The special sauce tuna looked suspicious served in a martini looking glass in a clear dark orange sauce. It looked more beefy than fish since it was seared on the outside. Suspicion was confirmed when the friend took a bite and didn't look too impressed.

He was happy with the grilled beef thing though while the chicken teriyaki was ordinary.

All in all, not a happy lunch. Maybe we just picked the wrong dish off the menu this time or this was just over-rated.

Thankfully, the company more than made up for the gastronomic experience!

I'll liken the experience as having ordered fish burger at KFC when I know that KFC is known for fried chicken.
