| bosses? triads? nah...a chinese rstnt. :)
Bro and his gf suggested to dine here for my bday and so we all trooped down to Vivo for dinner.
Colour wise, black is the order of the day. Tables have a hidden drawer for the menu. Wait staff were all dressed in black and white.
Appetizer - Deep Fried Fish Skin (akin to the peanuts always seen as default snack before any orders) $3.80
- This is nice. Crispy, definitely not 'lao4 hong1'. Addictive when feeling v hungry. :P
Wasabi Mayo Prawns (Small) $18
- Just normal, bit lukewarm when served though.
Chicken and Yam in Coconut Gravy $14
- Tender chicken cubes and thin pieces of yam cooked in a claypot of coconut gravy. Quite nice actually. The yam used is good. (Note: Praise coming from a non-yam lover (only or nee lover)) Very 'Peranakan taste'. Or rather, the gravy reminds me of bubur chacha. Really.
Salted Egg Pipa Beancurd $14
- Can barely taste the salted egg. Normal beancurd dish with some stalks of cai xin as garnish.
3 Eggs with Small Pak Choy $12
- Kinda forgettable
Red Bean Pancake $6
- I like it, mainly cos the red bean paste used is not overly sweet. Just nice for me.
Soup of the day - Lotus Root and Pork Ribs Soup $24
- For some reason, Mom ordered a soup and made do with the soup of the day. But we were not disappointed!! The lotus root is GOOD stuff! (Note: Praise coming from a non-lotus root lover). The pork parts used were the parts with the tendons and collagen parts. Tender, 'disintegrates' in the mouth. Worried about MSG, won't say don't have but unlikely a lot since I ain't dying of thirst. In fact the soup was pretty thick from the long hours of double boiling. Slurrp!
2 pots of Jasmine tea $8
- 1 pot of tea serves only 2 to 3 pax, I was told. Transparent tea pot with an improvised filter for the tea leaves.
Service was alright, efficient and observant. Plates were cleared with minimum fuss and not difficult to catch the attention of the staff.
Overall, its a nice bday meal with my family. Any return visit will be to check out the dim sum as the 50% discount offer for dim sum in the afternoon is kinda tempting. :) |
