| Lovely lovely surroundings, but simply average food
The Arab Street area is simply marvellous. I don't know why I don't go more often!
Even though we were literally folded up in one corner of the five foot way (the only outdoor table left in the restaurant), we had a wonderful time. With the call to prayer from the mosque in the background, a few ang mohs lazing in the cafe opposite reading their books, all sorts of random people strolling along and the balmy weather, it really felt like I was on holiday somewhere far away from Singapore!
Food wise, there was this really yummy picture of the chicken tagine with olives but alas, that was not available. And so we ordered chicken kebabs and the beef tagine. The chicken kebabs were juicy and well marinated, but honestly they tasted like chicken satay and you can get really outstanding ones at Old Airport Road. The beef tagine was average and got a little monotonous.
The pita bread side order did give us a moment of merriment though. When they came along and we ate some, the husband remarked that they were like what children made for paper mache in art class. We burst into laughter...cannot lah. Pita bread shouldn't be thin, crinkly, chewy and like paper.
The food came pretty fast, though it was hard to get attention from the wait folks. But it didn't matter and actually fitted in with the whole relaxed laid back environment. |
