Feeling like Little Nonyas

After being addicted to the 'Little Nonya' show, we decided to go for nonya food for lunch. Our group of 6 went to this nonya restaurant and have a good feast.

Our main dishes include:
Nonya Chap Chai- average
Sambal Petai- Unique and tasty stir fried Petai beans with minced meat and sambal
Babi Pongteh- average as pork is quite tender and not too fatty
Nonya Ngoh Hiong- average
Ikan Assam Manis- Tasty fish in sweet and sour assam sauce
Fish Maw Soup- Tasty and pepperish with generous ingredients like fish maw and meat balls

Our dessert include:
Chendol- average with generous big red beans and atap seeds
Oneh oneh- skin too thick and too little fillings

Overall, the dishes were good and the service are fine except that they were quite slow in serving our last few dishes. The staff, Desmond, who took our order was very friendly and professional. He recommended us a few signature dishes which turned out to be quite good. It will be better service if they can serve plain water for free. I think this place is definitely ideal for nonya food lovers!

Must Tries: Sambal Petai, Fish Maw Soup, Ikan Assam Manis

I also recommend this place for
Type of meal:Lunch, Dinner

Haha, everyone is addicted to Yueniang now... I just went to PeraMakan, another Peranakan place, and the place was full house. The owner tells me that there was an uplift in sales ever since the show came on!

Yah, I agree that the show really helps in promoting the peranakan food and culture. I think the Kim Choo restaurant was almost full house too but luckily we booked our table in advance. Guess what, when we're paying for our bill, we overheard the cashier complaining that they've run out of white rice. This shows that the bad economy situation has never bring any negative impact on their business. Thanks to Yue Niang and Chen Xi... Do visit this restaurant if you want to see or buy other nonya merchandise besides eating nonya food, like the beaded shoes, nonya kebaya, nonya cups, bowls etc.

Hmm location matters I think? 'Cos I recently went to House of Peranakan Cuisine, its not that crowded really. Tho I did overhear some patrons there mentioning their visits to Peramakan.

The show does help to promote the food...Culture wise, its not alien to me since most things are very similar to what is practised in my family even tho I am not a nyonya.

And I admit I am addicted to the show..will rush home to watch. If for some reasons its missed, lucky I can catch up the episodes or re-watch online. Too bad Yueniang did not end up with Chen Xi. Haiz. And there is prob a twist at the end.

To all the fans of "The Little Nonya" show, the Kim Choo restaurant is the filming site of the Yue Niang's shop (seen in the last episode where Aunty Juan, acted by Cynthia, dressed like a witch, meet up with Yue Niang). I'm not at all related to the restaurant but just want to share this info with all the TV fans just in case anyone is interested to visit the place. Cheers to Yue Niang!
