Breakfast in the Park

Breakfast has always been the most important meal of the day for me. I can have a quick lunch, I can even skip dinner but I MUST have my breakfast. It sets the tone of my day ahead without which, be prepared to deal with a sour puss all day long.

Acacia is one of the three restaurants in bishan park, along side the canopy and the green room. I chose to have my breakfast here on a weekend mainly because it was valentines and I wanted to have something special away from the concrete jungle. Also, it opens its doors at 8.30am which is the time I’d like my breakfast if not earlier. Acacia is located at bishan park II, along amk ave 1. You can enter by marymount road and take a stroll or by amk ave 1 where the car park is. We chose the former. The walk to the restaurant is delightful, with the crooning from the insects and company of morning joggers. The staff was just setting up the place when we reached so I guess 9am would be a better timing when things are more settled.

The morning walk gave us rosy cheeks, a stark contrast to the deadpan looks of the staff including the boss (we guess he is the boss cos he looked bossy). The immediate reception was almost like we are imposing on their morning preparation. We wanted a window seat but the female Chinese staff was nice to suggest another seat which is cooler with the cold air streaming from the air-con. She even switched the air-con full blast in an attempt to cool down the area quickly. I thought that was quite a nice gesture and that made me feel more at ease. The restaurant oozes cottage like charm with dark wooden beams across the ceiling and its countryside cupboards. The French windows provided a good view of the greens and allowed some natural lighting. We even caught sight of a squirrel scurrying away as we were settling down. Despite a jerky start, this place quickly gained points with its interiors and mind calming surroundings.

The breakfast menu was a no-brainer with only a few western sets but at very attractive prices comparable to that of macs. For those who prefer more variety, there's lunch or dinner with more than 40 selections and some local favorites to boot. The breakfast sets come with coffee/ tea/ orange juice or fruit punch and is only available during weekends & PH from 8.30am to 11.30am. We both ordered the American set which comprises of toast with eggs, sausage with ham or bacon. Nothing that titillate our fancies but what’s worth mentioning is that the sausage is not the nondescript types from the supermarket but rather, special prepared ones with the intestine casing still evident. I also liked how the eggs were done, not too raw nor overcooked but with the yolks still runny and quivery. With some of the greatest love compilations playing in the background coupled with a cosy ambience, it certainly heightened the pleasure of our breakfast date. For guys, you may even catch sight of a few babes on their way to pilates class or jogging in their nose bleeding super short shorts.

There is certainly room for improvement though. Our table was shaky for one. We requested for plain water but without breathing a word, the staff served a bottle of mineral with 2 cups. I thought it would be nice to at least inform patrons that they don’t serve free tap water. Also, I feel that the restaurant is inundated by too many tables in relation to its limited dinning area. Although it makes perfect business sense to have more revenue generating seats, it has definitely compromised the privacy and comfort of the patrons. Despite the emotionally detached service which kinda blended well with the serenity of the place, I enjoyed the simple yet hearty breakfast.

I also recommend this place for

2 slice of picnic ham with ugly fried eggs. I think they should improve the food presentation.
