| Ultra fresh Sashimi
There are two eating areas to this restaurant. A cheap dine in within the shop itself or an actual restaurant which is located in a separate area outside the shop. I only found this out after we had paid and left. The main problem eating inside the shop is that the tables are placed very close to each other and therefore you could be sat only half a metre away from your fellow diners which can be a little off putting.
To start you chose your fish from a chilled counter and then ask the waitress to have it sliced for you. There is a very large selection and therefore you will be spoilt for choice. The fish looks very fresh and you can tell by the way the flesh glistens in the light. I was very conservative and went for tuna and salmon but the waitress did recommend a local fish sashimi which is "in season" at the moment but unfortunately I forget the name.
We had free flow green tea with a selection of other starters including tofu salad - silken tofu covered in a tangy miso based dressing with sesame seeds; ordinary salad dressed in a ponzu sauce; edamame; and finally some roll sushi.
I can always tell how good a Japanese restaurant is based on their egg roll and this was up to scratch. The sashimi was sliced beautifully and melt in your mouth.
Overall the food was very good but yet again we felt a little let down as food came in dribs and drabs. We hoped the appetisers would come first (as they should do) - after all, they are supposed to stimulate your appetite for your main course. Disappointingly they came at the end after our sushi and sashimi... How irritating.
If you eat within the shop then there is no service charge and GST so our food was really cheap and we left feeling full having only spent $45 in total. I would probably come again but I would try and do it on a weekday lunchtime rather than a busy weekend during school holidays. |
