Obolo's New York Cheesecake

New York Cheesecake. The pure, unadulterated cheesecake with no fancy ingredients added either to the cheesecake or placed on top of it. The proper New York cheesecake has a simple and unchanging list of ingredients: cream cheese, eggs, sugar, vanilla and (heavy) cream.

Obolo offers a slightly jazzed up version of the New York cheesecake, topped with whole strawberries adorned with pistachio slices ($6.20 per slice).

The texture of the cheesecake was smooth and dense. I was expecting a more custardy-like consistency, in terms of texture. The flavour of the cheesecake was, believe it or not, not too cheesy, with a hint of tartness. It did not leave any discernable cheesy aftertaste. My only gripe was the (lack of) graham cracker crust (I prefer a more generous crust).

I was most impressed with how cleanly cut the cake slices were. No stray crumbs, nor smudges, littered the slice. In fact, the slices of blueberry and mango-passion cheesecake at the counter looked immaculately clean and tempting.

Would I recommend this place? I was slightly disappointed that I did not get a "knock-your-socks-off" New York Cheesecake taste experience. However, there were a few other cakes that looked rather tempting, so I would probably come back.

Next stop, blueberry cheesecake perhaps.

My last meal would be
