| Stay away from this place
Don't eat here. The food: standard Italian fare; many, many restaurants do the same dishes better, and for a better price. The prices are a little on the high side, appropriately expensive for the Dempsey area. The service is awful, absolutely awful, and it's got nothing to do with the under-trained wait-staff (which is tolerable, to an extent).
First, when you ask for iced water, they tell you they only serve bottled - still and sparkling. They are not the only restaurant in Singapore to do so, but when you are charging close to thirty dollars for a dish of pasta, there is no excuse why you should deprive your customers of a simple glass of H20. I told a waitress this, and she said that it was the restaurant's policy to only serve still or sparkling water. I told her point-blank that it was a ridiculous policy.
Second, they charge for bread. Absolutely unbelievable, again, for a restaurant charging the prices that it does.
The manager/owner (I never found out who she was because she didn't seem to bother to respond to my complaint, even though the waitress I had talked to conveyed my comments to her) didn't seem to care that we sat through our meal without a drink, and when she held the door open for us as we left, all she could manage was a feeble "good-bye". I wish I had taken her aside and told her that, by the way, two of my female dining companions had had bread crumbs flung on them by a reckless waiter when he carelessly cleared our bread dishes.
This, I'm afraid, is not how you manage a restaurant. I - and every one of the seven other people I dined with, I can assure you - will never EVER eat at this establishment again. La Forketta comes across as the kind of sub-standard establishment trying to pass itself off as a sophisticated restaurant. It fails on all counts, but most miserably because it doesn't realise how insulting it is to a customer to be told that he/she shouldn't expect anything without paying a little extra. This is a pity because its salads are actually rather good. |
