Expensive Poor Coffee Shop Cuisine
I really love korean food, which was why it was a particularly painful experience to dine at Baek Doo San in Jurong Point. It's always hard for restaurants to compete with coffee shop food being sold at a third the price, and this is a battle that this restaurant has lost outright.
For a start its a korean restaurant that not only doesnt sell korean tea, but doesnt even have it on the menu. Considering koreans drink more of this than water, the first impression is very bad. A lot of effort has been taken in the decor. In nice natural earth tones with traditional decorations, it sets the right mood for the food. The staff are attentive, even if they couldn't suggest a specialty. The ordered food comes quickly. Unfortunately thats where the compliments end.
The table with set with very few condiments of very small proportions(a decent korean restaurant with give at least 6 different condiments free of charge). The appetizer of fried sliced tofu looked nothing like the picture, painted with sauce to try mask the old and stale taste, it had to be sent back. The stone rice and spicy tofu seafood soup fared only slightly better, and was more inline with what an "OK Only" korean coffee shop stall could muster.
I've had much better korean food at a third the price (the stone rice at the Korean stall in food junction Bugis is delightful). Given that the food is bad, the value is even worse. There are MUCH better korean fine dining options out there.

Sat Dinner
One of my friends didn't want Chinese food and I didn't want Jap food. Somehow Whisk caught our eye and we ventured into this restaurant in the corner of Wisma shopping center out of curiosity since it's rather new.
The decor is baroque yet charming and whimsical with faux windows affixed and illustrations of kitties etched on the walls of the restaurant. Love the soft jazz playing overhead as well. I would think this is a nice place for friends to rest and relax while they enjoy a warm cuppa or some nice comestibles admist the buzzing crowd in town.
My friends ordered the soup of the day (Clam Chowder), prawn pasta in marinara sauce (I think) and fish and chips. I asked the waitress for recommendation between the ribs, half chicken and snapper. The ribs was culled.
Tried a sip of clam chowder and found it rather flavourful. However, it was nothing to cock-a-doodle-doo. Tried a bit of the fish and chips and pasta too. Hm...I don't really fancy what I sampled and my friend tot the pasta was alright only. Another friend seemed rather contented with his Fish & Chips though.
I was placated by the ribs. My friend commented that it had a herblike rosemary tang to it and I concur that it tasted minty. Well, I liked the ribs but the fries side fell short of glory. I like my fries crispy than squishy. However, those served were of the latter form. I didn't touch much of the fries.
Service was commendable as waters were filled to the brim continually during our short stint in the restaurant without any prompting at all.
My friends and I were commenting this place has the New York New York feel, except that it provides much more excellent service comparatively.

No Room for Dessert.
This place pretty much lived up to expectations as a carnivores dream, with a very fast, endless supply of all kinds of meat delivered to the table with fast, polite service.
The selection for the salad bar was good... but not outstanding enough in my opinion to warrant the cost as another menu option. My girlfriend took this (as not a fan of red meat) and happily managed to consume 4 plates
The meat selection was great, well prepared and tasted delicious, if prepared with perhaps a little too much salt. I could see it warranting the price if you are seriously craving meat. Im not sure the ease of them preparing any meats to your specification. The red meat came to me my prefared doneness of medium and medium rare. Some people might prefare it a with a little less blood.
The lime Caipirihna (brazilian cocktail) I ordered was overly strong and difficult to drink and expensive (12.80++). Stick to the ice water.
Must Tries: Tenderloin, Pineapple, Shortrib, Mussel and jackfruit salad.

authentic Italian food in Singapore
Some of the a la carte dishes were on the high end. well, i guess for a the prices could be the market rate for fine dining restaurants in singapore. However, there is a set lunch which is very good too. At only $28++, it was really good value and the quality of food was not compromised at all! we tried the italian wines available and they were good! i also the service level at bonta. very friendly and attentive staff.
Standard Western Chain - burgers, ribs, steaks - nothing Australian really
THis is your bog standard restaurant with an Ozzie theme with no real Ozzie Food. It could well have been a TGI Friday or a Hard Rock Cafe or an American steak and rib place. However if you like the above then you will feel at home.
Food itself was OK and my "Mad Max" burger was cooked nicely (medium). Personally the Brewerkz burger is better than this but I enjoyed the crispy bacon on the top. My wife's steak (medium) was too rare and got sent back to the kitchen for another few minutes on the grill. It did come back replated and was done without any questioning by the waitress. Looking at the previous reviews perhaps she must be used to it! The service was generally very good.
The Kids menu was not cheap - around $11 but the serving was generous and my 4 and 2 year olds shared a plate between them. It also came with a free drink.
Would I go back - probably not as once you have eaten in one of these "themed restaurants" the food is all the same and not good for your waistline!
We specially came here to try the Tiramisu flavour which is only available on the 2nd Friday of every month. Besides that, we also tasted some other flavours like Pear and Brandy, Apple Pie, Salted Caramel etc. Call me boring, but I had the Chocolate Stout again! I love the strong alcoholic taste which makes it bittersweet. And paired it with Tiramisu ($2.50 for small cup).
Sis also had the Tiramisu but paired it with Pink Grava which was quite good. I was somewhat disappointed by the Tiramisu flavour as it lacked a strong alcoholic punch and was too sweet to my liking. Generous chunks of the lady fingers biscuits provided a nice bite but were too dry.
Like my previous visits, the parlor was packed with people and the service was excellent as usual! It's definitely worth busting the caloric bank for the ice cream here.

I'll be back! For the Black Sesame Pudding!
If my memory is right, the menu has been given a makeover as more items have been added. For starter, we had the Mango Sushi Roll ($5) which seems to be featured on the menu of every organic cafe I've been to so far. It's a colourful mix of mango, beetroot, carrot, alfalfa sprouts, pea sprouts wrapped in a sheet of Nori seaweed. I like the crunchiness and freshness of the vegetables but the seaweed was made a little soggy by the sauce.
As usual, I took a long time to decide on my main course. After listening to the owner's recommendations, I finally settled on the LivinGreens Lasagna ($8.50) which is wheat-, gluten- and dairy-free. I love this! It's absolutely delicious with a well-balanced flavour and texture. Every slice of the lasagna contains eggplant, fresh tomatoes, green and red peppers, carrots, mushroom, spices and fresh herbs. I was "dissecting" every slice and bite so as to try replicating this at home.
Sis had one of the Today's Specials: the LivinGreens Burger ($8) which is another common item found in such cafes. We didn't like the texture of the bread as it was "neither here nor there". It wasn't soft but neither was it dense. It was just... weird. I suppose it's an acquired taste. You have to try it to understand what I'm talking about. Otherwise, the patty was tasty enough with lots of veggies packed in it.
Remembering how this was sold out the last time we were here, Sis specially called the cafe this morning to ask whether there will be any Avocado Pudding ($4). This was great! Fresh avocado was blended with soy milk, sweetened with a syrup of molasses and palm sugar, and the result? Smooth and silky "pudding" which seems more like a mousse to me. However, I thought it's too expensive for such a small cup of dessert.
Just when I had decided to try the Black Sesame Pudding too, the staff told me it was sold out. Turns out that the lady at the next table was one step faster than me! Argh, this always happens to me! I guess I have to come back here again next time just to try that... After all, besides the healthy and wholesome cuisine, the lack of GST and service charge is another plus!
decent western food in a nice atmosphere in Raffles place
Brought my good friends to try this new place as I have read many good reviews from fellow HGWers. We ordered 1 set dinner (3 course)to share plus a Southern burger as a la carte. We chose the Ribs for the maincourse within the set dinner. That was good! The seasoning was delicious. not too salty nor too sweet. Would definitely be back for the ribs! The only unpleasant thing i had at Dallas was that the night we went, all the tables were occupied by youths ( around early 20s) and they were talking very loudly. Didn't get to enjoy the nice atmosphere as mentioned by fellow HGWers.i guess if the working crowd was here, it would be less rowdy.
Thank you very much for your review on our restaurant. We are glad that you enjoyed our baby back pork ribs as it is indeed one of our specialties at Dallas and our ongoing promotion at HungryGoWhere.com would allow everyone to try our ribs on Monday and Tuesday nights at 50% off.
The next time you come, call us in advance and I will do my best to find you a nice corner spot on the second floor for your dinner. Thank you for dining at your restaurant once again and we look forward to serving you soon.
