Singapore Laksa is my all-time fave dish so I am very critical when it comes to how well it's done. Having sampled it at many different locations (even outside Singapore), I have yet to come across a version better than Katong Laksa's. It's 'lemak' to the right degree, and has the perfect mix of sweet and savoury with all the ingredients spot-on, right down to the cockles. =)
I go to the church really near Katong Laksa and have been since I was 6. Always passing by the place, I never really bothered to try it until one day (& age 11) my dad decided that we would all eat there after church. I hated spicy stuff back then and was reluctant, but my first sip then has made me return countless times again and again. Fast forward 11 years into the present; the same thing still attracts me, the fragant broth, how the noodles are already cut up for you, the fresh fishcakes and fragant Laksa Leaves + the blachan that you can add to spice it up!
This is my hawker hero. Has been for years.
