| Still not convinced
I used to patronize the former Yogi Hub many years ago, from the time when there was only one outlet at Boon Tat Street and when this outlet just opened. What I loved about it were the way the food was prepared, using very little refined ingredients and though very healthy, tasted absolutely fabulous!
The choice of dished were more limited then and there were different special everyday which I looked forward to.
However, the general taste of the food at this outlet started to change , in what seemed like to cater to a wider public, many who did not embrace the idea of "healthy and bland" (which many of use believe is a misconception, of course) cuisine. Seasonings and oil were used more liberally than before.
Thus I stopped eating here. That was a year ago.
Encouraged by excellent reviews recently, I decided to try again.
THE GOOD
Food tastes back to the healthy standard it once had, but the flavor isn't as fantastic as before, with fragrance of spices and ingredients compromised.
Spacious, comfortable and clean feel made sitting in very comfortable.
THE BAD
Food is still not good enough to draw me back. Service was hit and miss, depending on the mood of the service staff.
THE DISHES
1) Shanghai noodle - nice variety and texture of vegetables, but otherwise mediocre
2) Gado gado - thankfully the sauce was warm, yes the long beans were al dente, most vegetables are raw and diced in large cubes, tempeh seemed deep fried with a slight greasy feeling and the sauce was just nutty and overly sweet.
This dish used to be a favourite dish of mine but I don't like the way it is served now, in a large square plate with a bowl of sauce in the middle. Though it is probably good for sharing, it made eating this quite quite awkward.
In addition, the vegetables were mostly large chopped pieces which made eating this rather tiresome.
3) Potato gratin - also a favourite before, it was undercooked and the amount of cheese and cream were very little, thus did not ooze like before. Now there is a generous drizzling of a dark sauce (sweet vinegar reduction?) all over, which not everyone liked.
Overall, disappointing.
Wanted to try the avocado tofu cake but it was unavailable. Don't think I might be missing much, but I may just go back to try it next time. Or maybe not.
Average price of each dish is S$10. |

| Great Vegetarian Dining
This is a hidden gem in little India. It is really hidden as it took me almost a year to find it. They have some attentive staff and the owners of the restaurant come and chat with you. Their food is so awesome that it is one of those few places you could go to daily and still you will want more. Had the Vietnamese Roll, Mousaka and the Pumpkin Salad for starters. The Vietnamese roll and the Mousaka were just amazing. Fresh ingredients and a lot of attention had gone into making them. The juices are innovative and had the Apple-Beetroot-Carrot Juice which was excellent. The Tom Yam noodles for the main course was delicious. The Korean Brown rice set was not great. There was another Indonesian curry (Cant remember what it was called) which I am sure is an acquired taste. It was a bit too sour for me. The desserts were fantastic. They have a number of eggless items too. So do ask them for recommendations. All in all this is a wonderful place if you can find it that is. Now that I have, I plan to frequent this place. |

| Great Unique Restaurant
Heard the buzz and wasn't convinced about firstly trying a vegetarian restaurant (am more of a carnivor) nor that it would satisfy my hunger pangs and the food tasting good
It's tucked behind the Tekka Mall, will take some finding but if you get the directions and maps right, as I found out, it's worth it!
The food is delightful.....very creative dishes and recipes. Met with Annie who mothers you in what she recommends and what you should eat and then she does the order for you...great for a novice vegetarian like me and some of my friends
Loved the rice sets, the pizzas and they have an avocado cake thats to die for! They really cater to those that are strict vegetarians etc. and for commoners like me, we were pleasantly surprised. Dont even feel like I am missing out by eating their food.....have tried other vegetarian restaurants and you really feel like you're making a huge sacrifice by not eating meat etc. Not here!
Ah, and we all loved the different enzyme drinks.
What a great concept and the food and the drinks were fantastic yet it doesnt hurt the pocket. It's a very pleasant understated restaurant.
Fully recommend it to anyone who wants a unique dining experience.....just don't expect fine dining! |

| Good News – Best Vegetarian Restaurant! More Good News - I’ve been out staged!
I thought I make the best Gado Gado in town… well, maybe not anymore. I’ve been out staged - by 7 Sensations! One of my most favourite dish, I never fail to have an order if it is on the menu. How highly I think of their food will be based on how much passion they put into this dish. In this case, their flavours and presentation have exceeded beyond my expectations. I’m a happy loser.
7 Sensations (prev. named Yogi Hub) is a vegetarian restaurant located in a nondescript back alley (that’s my description). Nobody would have found it if not for the most persistent hunters, also deserves to be in The Amazing Race. However, if you are able to locate this place, mind you, its swanky décor and friendly smiles from the service staff makes it all worthwhile and what you have gone through to get here doesn’t matter any more. You could be in one of those cool places on Club Street.
I had their fabulous Gado Gado – perfectly boiled potatoes and long beans (yes, I can’t stand overcooked veg) with tofu, tempeh, zucchini, turnips, lettuce and emping belinjo (crackers). Cashew nut sauce was so flavourful that my partner could not stop digging into my dish. We have to ask for more as we were literally lapping it up. Partner had the Black Olive Brown Rice which was equally superb. Wide variety of choices on the menu, from health juice to appetizers, soups, salads, pizzas, pasta, cakes and dessert – I could eat here everyday…
We are keen to go back for more. Next on our list to try would be :
Vietnamese Roll
Mousaka
Avocado & Mango Salad
Avocado Cake
Mousaka
& many many more other great dishes…
Yum yum yum – we’ll be back, most quickly….. |
