Great Bistro
04 Aug 2012Check out here for a full review.http://rachelays.blogspot.sg/2012/07/birthday-dinner-at-bistro-du-vin.html
The boyfriend and I went there on a Tuesday evening and there wasn't much diners so we had more privacy. The ambience is very homely and cosy and it exudes the quaintness of an authentic French Bistro.
Pan-seared foie gras with pickled shallots and eggplant.I am a sucker for Foie Gras and I love this! The pickled shallots and eggplant make a good combination. With every bite, I found myself wanting more.
Baked Burgundian escargots with garlic herb butterThe herb taste was the strongest here. It was a good dish but not a hit for me.
Coq au vin – chicken (half) braised in red wine, with carrot, mushroom, pearl onion, bacon & mashed potatoPortion was huge and the chicken meat was very tender.
Beef cheek braised in red wine, with carrot, mushroom, pearl onion, bacon & mashed potatoBeef cheek was nicely cooked to a medium well and was very tender.
Soufflé au Grand Marnier with vanilla ice creamThis soufflé was beautifully risen. It was crisp on top; light and slightly moist in the centre and did not deflate. We did not really fancy the taste of it though.
Overall, portions were generous. I feel that prices for the main courses comparable to that of fine dining but I guess the generous portions make up for that.

Good & authentic french bistro dining

There are two Bistro Du Vin restaurants. One at the Shaw Centre, and the other at Zion Road.
Chose the one at Zion cos parking would be much easier and more convenient. There are tons of carpark lots along the stretch.
However, do avoid peak hours still if you're not one who's patient enough to search for parking :)
The restaurant decor was a typical french bistro setting.
With red and lots of paintings.
Seats are limited and comfortably spaced.
The free flow of bread is a nice touch, especially when the bread is SO GOOD.
It's unlike any bread I've tried before!
The crust is extremely thin and crispy, while the bread is so soft and slightly warm still.
Green asparagus with escargot and hollandaise sauce
The fresh juicy asparagus and huge escargots made this dish a totally delightful one for me!

Lovely French Bistro along Zion Road
28 Jun 2012After a wonderful day at the Spa, my wife and I decided to
check out this new French Bistro along Zion Road (opposite Great World
City). The evening was sublime!
We started with a platter of pork and duck pate & duck rillettes,
a sizable portion for two. The freshly
baked bread was simply lovely; crusty on the outside and airy on the inside.
Next, we had the Coq au vin; chicken braised in red wine. The
meat was braised to perfection, falling off the bone. We washed the soft and
tender meat down with a bottle of Laurent Perrier Champagne.
It was a dilemma when it came to picking a dessert as they
all looked so good. We finally decided
on a Soufflé au grand marnier with vanilla ice cream. This was one of the two desserts which required
20 minutes preparation and it was definitely worth the wait!
The mouthwatering food aside, I must compliment the crew
for being extremely attentive to all the customers; with special
thanks to Kavita and Kamal, who took very good care of us – replenishing and making sure our bread, water and champagne
glasses were never empty.
We will definitely be back to savor the many other interesting
items on the menu and the plethora of wines from the various regions.
