Very good Chinese restaurant with fantastic service
17 Apr 2013I was impressed with the restaurant's service the moment I called to make a reservation. Not many Chinese restaurants bother about service, but service here is consistently outstanding, be it the receptionist or the servers. One server by the name of Bryan was especially professional and friendly that I felt I had to tip him in addition to the service charge (I presumed there was one).
Food was very good. The peking duck was a great value. The coffee pork ribs are a must-try! Probably the best I've had. Very fragrant.
Other dishes I've tried include the pumpkin spare ribs, crab meat tofu, wasabi prawns, some spicy almond prawns, all of which were very decent, but not as memorable as the coffee pork ribs.
The restaurant is done up very nicely, almost like fine dining Chinese. I would definitely return, though it's a little pricey.

Celebrity Chef has left Chu Dao
12 Feb 2013I tried to make reservation for Chinese New Year's Eve dinner, and I was told that Chef Tan Yong Hua has left Chu Dao.
A few of our friends who are regulars there also complained that the quality of the food has went down drasticly compare to the time when Chef Tan was heading the kitchen.
Those patrons who looks forward to taste Chef Tan culiary skills, will have to wait for his comeback.

Fabulous food and service
13 Sep 2012Went here on the recommendation of a friend. And how right she was!
Tucked away on Joo Chiat Place, the decor is simple but elegant, with comfy high-backed chairs. Restaurant not too cold - a big plus. But this place is all about the food.
We pre-ordered the peking duck. Hands down, the most succulent and tasty duck I have ever had. Pancakes were light and fresh, hoi sin suace not too heavy and finely chopped onion and cucumber. The rest of the meat came stir-fried with fresh ginger and shallots, delicious. If I had one small complaint, it was the number of bones in this dish, but a minor quibble.
The 3 veg in XO sauce were fresh and delicious. But the stir fried beef with vegetable in black pepper was just outstanding. The cubes of beef literally melted in my mouth! Topped off with a yummy friend rice with crab and bean sprouts.
The service was fabulous, constantly clearing and replacing the dirty plates and topping up the chinese tea.
Price wise, 4 of us left with full stomaches and a smile on our face for less than $45 each, fairly reasonable.
Highly recommend, a great place for cosy dinner or for a large group.
