Generally good with little to complain about

Da Paolo does classic Italian cuisine that's fairly authentic and we like it here. The food's generally good, with little to complain about, and it's intimate and elegant. The dimly lit restaurant is completely open-aired, but powerful air-conditioning in the "indoors" area makes it a lot more chilly than you'd expect. I was so missing my shawl when we got a table "indoors". Also, because seating is limited, it's best to make reservations during peak dining periods.
Another thing about this famed restaurant is the nightmarish parking issues around Chip Bee Gardens, so I suppose it's a good thing that we dine at really odd hours. Otherwise, we're usually deterred by the lack of available parking lots.
We had:
1) Carpaccio di Manzo ($24), a thin blanket of chilled beef tenderloin laid upon a bed of bitter rocket and ribbons of salty pungent parmesan cheese was served a tad too cold, like it had just been taken straight out from the freezer and onto our table. It was so cold I couldn't quite make out the flavour of the beef. I would have preferred this tepid instead. Further, a more liberal drizzling of olive oil would have helped this very average appetizer along
2) Tagliatelle al Granchio ($28), pasta ribbons laced with sweet crabmeat in a vodka-infused tomato and cream pink sauce was quite delicious. I've noticed that this style of pasta isn't very common on our menus so I always make it a point to order it whenever I spy it on a menu. This didn't disappoint. It was rich, creamy, robust and balanced the sweet and savoury beautifully

Fine dining place
13 Sep 2012This is one of the restaurant under Da Paolo group. I especially like Da Paolo's tiramisu, it is one of the best I had in Singapore. There was not much people when we reached but later after 8pm, people started to dine in.
I had special pasta. This is not on the menu, they seems to have some chef recommended dish on the day itself. It was kind of tomato sauce with cheese, I dun really tasted what is the ingredient but I love this very much. It served with 2 fresh tiger prawn.
My friends got Branzino alla Mugnaia($34) & Tagliolini all'Aragosta($29). The fish tasted average but the pasta tasted quite good.
Overall, I feel it is quite pricey for a dinner. The pasta tasted much nicer than the meaty main course.

Lousy food. Will not come back!
08 Sep 2012It was a Friday night and everywhere was fully booked except this place. We went to the branch at club street before and had great food, so out of convinence we chose this place. Big mistake!
We had the risotto with duck meat $34. It was bland. Imagine having creamy rice that's has no flavor? And also ham and mushroom pasta w cream sauce, it was soooooo salty! The appetizer we had was forgettable, sticky cheese on soft portobello mushroom.
Total damage $95. We had no mood for wine. Expensive lousy meal feels like a total ripoff!
