Fat fish
30 Apr 2013Fat fish - http://phuachiuyen.wordpress.com/2012/06/12/fat-fish-sembawang-shopping-centre/
I was at the Sembawang Shopping Centre outlet for the porridge buffet. The dishes mirrored home cooked ones. They have nasi lemak and mee siam too. Quite a wide range of food.

Ideal for a Family Meal
06 Feb 2013Downtown East - a nice little off beat part of Singapore where one can go and relax with the family, and Fat Fish - a steamboat restaurant that has been around for the past few years, has certainly done well to tap into tis niche market.
At a recent visit, I tried their steamboat buffet, and left the place filling stuffed with thier goodies.
For a start, go with the homemade goodies such as the fish glue, a thin fish paste, as well as some of the minced meat balls and dumplings.
Meat is readily available, and the options of cuttlefish, squid, sliced beef and pork would ensure that there is something for everyone.
Finally, with two soup bases, one can choose between having the tom yum or the chicken base - but if you are an instant noodle fan like me, dip it lightly in the tom yum and then have it al dente - goes wonderful with the food.
Overall, expect a wide spread at a reasonable price - ideal for families of all ages.

Super crappy service
29 Dec 2012I've been to this place quite a number of times because I love steamboat and there's no other steamboat place in pasir ris or tampiness.
The food is good. Fresh, clean.
But what gets me very mad each visit is their horrendous service.
1)
I had one visit (when they just opened this new restaurant) where our money got wrongly charged. We went to talk sense with the cashier. But he insisted, and refuse to refund us the wrongly charged amount.
2)
It was stated outside the restaurant "Lunch: 20% off dinner price". But when I was there, there was a Special Promotion "90mins Lunch buffet 25% off". So I assume that if I eat my lunch within 90mins, I'll get 25% off. But if I eat more than 90mins, I'll just pay for the lunch price, which is Dinner Price off 20%. I went there for lunch buffet, eat over 90mins, they charged me dinner price. I told them it's very unfair to consumers since the price stated BIG AND CLEAR outside the restaurant to be "Lunch: 20% off dinner price" without stating the time limit. And the 25% off 90mins lunch promo is a one-off thing. The cashier again refuse to refund us any amount.
3)
On my another visit, I had dinner with 10 of my friends. Some of us got our personal water bottles. As the steamboat can get really salty, we took out of personal water bottles to drink some plain water, and some of us buy the drinks from the restaurant. When billing, the cashier told us that we couldn't use our NTUC card discount of 10%, because we brought in our own beverages. And insisted that even food court also don't allow own beverages. I really wonder which food court do not allow people to bring in their personal water bottle. They insisted to charge us the full amount, without the NTUC discount. I refuse to make any payment this time until they give me the 10% discount because I feel it's ridiculous that a person cannot even drink from our own water bottles.
4)
They terrorise their customers with food wastage charges. I find it's reasonable to charge customers with food wastage charge to prevent people from wasting food. But they seemed to be too excessive in this. Every little meat, every leaf, every c*** s*** they look into it and charge the food wastage.
I really wonder what kind of business model they are looking into and this place is definitely sucks with petty boss.
