As a cafe that strongly believes in environmental conservation and use of reusable materials, Grin Affair serves its desserts in a unique concept of stacking layers of sponge, mousse and fruits into glass jars. cake in a jar

30 Apr 2013
cake in a jar? i had to try. this place is quite a hidden find - small shop tucked on the ground floor of an old hdb flat. the lychee passion with pistachio is quite interesting... it would have been great if the serving is a bit bigger. if you do take away you get to keep the cute jar.

Dropped from Nice to Disappointment

25 Mar 2013
Second time to Grim Affair

Was pleasantly surprised by the newly added chairs and a table. The other time I came, my friend and I had to stand and eat the cakes which were really a hassle. Decorations look pretty much the same. But because of the chairs (finally), plus points for the ambience!

Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed with the strawberry cake I bought... This is the second time I am having it. Loved it the first time I bought it but now.... Got the strawberry cake and noticed frost marks on the strawberry. Did not think much however... when I pushed the spoon into the cake, IT WAS FROZEN! No more smooth cream and sponge cake. It felt like a jar of icecream that was placed out in the hot sun, got melted and placed back into the freezer in attempt to salvage it. Friend ordered the dark chocolate. Her's was also frozen!

Was terribly disappointed with this second trip to Grim Affair :( Why has the food standard drop? Paying $5.50 is already a little pricey for a small jar of cake. However, the quality is a let down. Will not be visiting again if they are going to continue serving me frozen cakes :(

Try the Caramel and Chocolate will do

    11 Jan 2013

    http://dairycream.blogspot.sg/2013/01/grin-affair-mighty-jar.html

When I first heard of it, I had doubts about the taste as it has about 12+3 new types of selection but each follows the formula of sponge cake+mousse+crumbs/nuts and the sponge cake revolves around mocha, chocolate and vanilla. Furthermore, though the location was accessible by mrt, it was not easy to locate after that by foot.

Nonetheless, curiosity still won me over and decided to give it a try.In order to maximize the variety, I tried not to pick those with repeated ingredients though it was still inevitable to encounter the vanilla sponge quite often.

The caramel and chocolate was better than the matcha and the new flavour apple bread and butter pudding.

I also recommend this place for:

    Ala Carte
