Visited Lao Ban Soya Beancurd at Maxwell. As usual, there was a queue at the stall.

Menu showing what is available and the price.

Now, they display the number the beancurds left in the fridge so that customers do not queue and get disappointed when stocks run out. In the above photo, it shows that there are just 50 Almond Beancurd left. Good initiative!

A thin film like layer on the top. Anyone knows what causes this?

Well, I have tried many other similar kinds of beancurds, Lao Ban's version is still the best so far. In terms of taste and melt in the mouth sensation, theirs is unbeatable.

I have tried to made this several times, but I must admit I am nowhere near to Lao Ban's version. Mine is closer to 51 Soya Bean in terms of taste. Click here for the chilled beancurd recipe.

If anyone has any idea or knows the recipe for Lao Ban's version please let me know! Thanks!

Lastly, they have opened a new outlet at One Raffles Place!

Wow! Forever long queue. Really so nice meh?

After trying it once, I just find myself queuing for it on my every visit to Maxwell.

Knowing that the stall opens at about 11am, my friend and I decided to go over to Maxwell Food centre for some dao huay last Saturday. We reached the stall at about 1.30pm and aghast! We were told that everything was sold out for the day!! :O

There was another beancurd stall a few stalls away and I suggested that maybe we should try that. My friend could not be convinced to try something "not known". After walking round to see other stalls in the food centre, we went back to Lao Ban's stall and there. My friend began his sales & marketing talk. He was determined to have his Lao Ban Daohuay!

How he did it in the end, I have no clue but he managed to convince an old lady to sell him her share of daohuay.......

The stall owner then told my friend to sms him the day/night before to place orders for the next day's collection.

Suggestion to all, call before going over to the stall to avoid any disappointment.

The daohuay sells out in what.... 2hrs!?!

Had been wanting to try Lao Ban Beancurd after spotting 2 office ladies carrying 10 packed tubs of Lao Ban beancurd under the hot sun and hearing my colleague's description of how good it taste.

Glad that the queue was quite short, maybe because its already late in the evening. However, almond flavour was sold out and we only manage to get the original flavour @$1.50.

The chilled Lao Ban beancurd was yummy! Its soft, silky smooth like a jelly or pudding. It is creamier and smoother than the traditional beancurd. Unlike the traditional beancurd which is sweetened with sugar syrup, Lao Ban beancurd itself is already flavourful with the ingredient malt mixture and coffee-mate.

The beancurd simply melts in your mouth with soy bean milk bursting out. The taste is more of milky with only slight soy bean taste, it will be perfect if the soy bean taste is richer.

    Must tries: original beancurd
