    The Medley Ever Changing

    08 Jul 2011
So I returned to the Medley Amaii recently, realizing that I have always been curious as to how the name of the place came about. One of the employees, a young gentleman, offered an explanation. The name is a playful pun. Like the syntax in Romance languages and classical Latin, the adjective "amaii"--sweet in Japanese--is placed after the modified noun "medley". (the employee told me that the epic poem "Paradise Lost" is an example of Latin grammar employed in the English language) By putting "amaii" in front of "medley" it seems as if I can translate "Medley Amaii" into "Madly Sweet"! Feeling rather pleased with my discovery, I went on to ask the gentleman whether that was how one reads this mischievously odd name. He smiled and suggested that the name could simply mean "The Sweet Medley" or "The Medley by the Name 'Amaii'". When I asked him which is the right interpretation, he chuckled and offered me a sample of gelato.

Perhaps the many interpretations of Medley Amaii is a metaphor for the many unexpected delights the establishment offers. It was closed for a period of time before reopening. The owner, who was around when my husband and I were there again, explained to us that renovations had taken place. The kitchen was expanded and improved upon. And now the menu offers a wider variety of choices. Pasta anyone? Although the last time I truly enjoyed pasta was when I was in Boston at a place called The Daily Catch, the Medley's pasta was just as good as the one I had in Boston.

In a previous occasion, I developed a fondness for the Medley after discovering its very affordable and very tasty muffins. Now, I have another reason to be in love with this place.

And as usual, love the service.

      The gelato is...

      24 May 2011
Wonderful. Wonderful is the gelato Medley Amaii offers. Singapore is a hot place to live in. The gelato is ridiculously affordable although its rich flavour suggests that the cost of making it isn't. If your place of work is somewhere near Robertson Quay, you ought to visit the place often during your lunch breaks. Just got off work? Head down with some of your friends and have a few drinks--and do not forget the gelato! Amen.

I also heard that new things are being added into the menu. Looking forward to it.

        The Importance of Being Sweet

        24 May 2011
Living in Rivergate, I found a simple delight in a cafe called Medley Amaii. My husband and I visit the cafe twice a week for the gelato and the freshly made waffles. It is value for money. I was pleasantly surprised by the recent inclusion of muffins. After ordering a cup of latte, I was told that I only had to spend a dollar to have a muffin. It tastes as good as those you can get from Starbucks but cheaper. For the same muffin, Starbucks asks for more than 3 dollars, Medley Amaii 1 dollar.

Trust me and try out this cafe. I like it, and I hope you will too.
