    Tucked away wonder

    05 Apr 2013
Nice set place converting an old colonial bungalow into a restaurant and bar.

Was there for a business dinner. Staff were very accommodating in trying to fit us into a private space inside the bungalow itself. Service was prompt, and they did their best to leave us with as much privacy as possible.

Food was tasty, as expected with a restaurant of this class, and compared to many others around the area. Ambience is fantastic if you were to sit outdoors for dinner at night. Ample ventilation provided.

Will definitely come back to this place, whether it be for a normal dinner, or for a specially arranged event.

      Lovely Hidden Restaurant

      13 Mar 2013
Based on a friends recommendation, I found myself at Nosh over the weekend for dinner. It can be quite hard to find because the area is not lit up very well, but once we actually got to the restaurant, we were pleasantly surprised. The setting is really something special. It's really cosy for such a big space. Food was good. I had a veal risotto and some interesting purple gnocchi and cofit duck. Service was also friendly. No complaints. Not too much else around the area, but nice for a change of pace. Would definitely recommend.

Just don't come for the food

        07 Mar 2013
Do yourself a favour and avoid the food here. It's overpriced and the portions are painfully miniscule. I wouldn't mind if the food was actually good but unfortunately it's just average. For an appetitser we ordered the Maryland Crab Cakes, which quite clearly was the plural 'cakes' in the menu because we even double-checked after our pathetic, solitary crab cake arrived. What was even more infuriating about this appetiser were the lame attempts to make it look more substantial with decorative splashes of sauce around this lonely cake along with an equally tiny salad (more of a garnish really) huddled up in the corner of the laughably massive plate. After asking the waitress what was up with serving us a single crab cake, she replied with, "but it's a big one." Sorry -- it really wasn't. Imagine the circumference of a 330ml can of Coke and that's how big this thing was. For $18 (not including tax and service charge) there could have been at least another crab cake, or this so-called "big one" could have been made into smaller cakes so the menu description wouldn't be a flat-out lie and diners wouldn't be left trying to solve the mystery of the missing crab cakes.
Even with our now considerably lowered expectations for the food here, the pièce de résistance was to follow: Pistachio Crusted Lamb Chops ($30), which should really be renamed to Unholy Fat-Encrusted Gristle Bombs. That actually sounds better than the dish actually was. The chops were more than half fat so we ended up cutting away most of it, only managing to obtain a few morsels of actual meat. The accompanying roasted parsnips were fine, but the braised endive leaves were offensively slimey and tasteless. After these expensive disappointments we stuck to ordering drinks.
The ambience here is nice -- sure, but that doesn't make up for the feeling of being so unapologetically ripped off. If a restaurant going to save on food cost by serving next to nothing, which I believe was happening here, at least use high-quality, flavourful ingredients. In short, never come here for the food. Ever.
