Tried out Ruyi at Heeren after buying a Groupon voucher. Touted as Tong Lok's answer to chinese fast food, I think its quite lousy. My mom ordered the vegetable noodles with the voucher. I got the fried noodles set upon the staff's recommendation. The noodles came lukewarm and were hardly appetizing. I waited nearly 20 minutes for my fried noodles, which came only after I enquired about them. Other customers who ordered later than me had already gotten their food but the waitress insisted that they did not forget my order, just that they were not ready yet. Whatever.
Served in paper bowls, the noodles were at best average, bordering poor. The small prawns in the noodles were very salty. My guess is that they doused them with salt to cover up the fishy smell as they were not fresh. My set came with a trio of dumplings in spicy and sour sauce. The meat in the dumplings is tasteless and the sauce was way too sour. At $6.90 for the cheapest set, I rather spend it at Mac Donalds or the food court in Ion. Even a bowl of vegetable noodles (without set) will cost $6.20. A total rip off.
