Still a great place to eat and chill :)

Was ard the Newton area and recalled the cosy place where I had my first experience of Sous vide cooking. Decided to head down again since I was withy dearie who had heard me rave abt it previously but never had the chance to try their food. My dearie, like a good Singaporean foodie, googled Skyve to check the out the reviews and was surprised by the 2 recent reviews needling Skyve for it's poor quality of food and even poorer service. Despite the reviews, we decided to "take a gamble" and check it out again. Thankfully the gamble paid off. :) We didn't make a reservation but had a warm welcome by the wait staff. After having our pick of the sitting area, we settled for an order of truffles fries, salad as well as the Sous Vide Poulet. The generous portion of truffle fries, which came in a dim sum holder, was fragrant, pipping hot and stayed crispy till the end. The salad, with an assortment of greens, was topped with prosciutto ham, pine nuts and almonds. A tasty starter! Next came our Sous vide Poulet with roasted veges which didnt disappoint; tender drumstick with beautifully roasted root vegs and silky smooth and buttery mash. Through out our meal, the wait staff was more than helpful, topping up our icE water frequently and even offering to split our Sous vide Poulet onto individual dishe's when they realized we were sharing. We finished off our meal with a camomile creme Brûlée with lychee sorbet that in the words of my dearie was "very nice without being cloyingly sweet" Great food, great service and good music - I'd definitely be back!

Nice ambience, mediocre food, atrocious service

My boyfriend and I came here a long time ago and decided that we weren't going back again. Sure, the ambience did impress us when we stepped in. However, we were soon dismayed by the food. My boyfriend's poached eggs were overdone and hence, were more like hard boiled eggs, while mine were too runny, akin to those you have in the kopitiam together with your kopi-C. The service was terrible. The staff were nonchalant and slow.

Recently (and unfortunately) I had to go back there again for a gathering with friends. The place was rather empty considering it was around 2.30pm on a weekend. Occupancy was only about 10% so it wasn't difficult to get a table.

I found that the food was still mediocre. The poached eggs from the Salmon Polenta Benedict were still like hard boil eggs. My friend's Skyve Sous Vide Eggs Benedict was way too drenched in Hollandaise sauce, so much so that the English muffins were served soggy, and I really could only taste the Hollandaise sauce. Egg & Truffle was too creamy it overwhelmed any trace of truffle present. French toast was too dry.

Food aside, service was consistently bad. This has not changed or improved much since the last time I came. The staff in general were a nonchalant and slow bunch, and the manager was rude and condescending, a rather poor representative of the restaurant.

Much as I have found the ambience to be impressive, it doesn't quite make up for the mediocre food and atrocious service. Upon speaking to a few other friends who were not present at the gathering, I realized that they, too, had similar past bad experiences at Skyve.
