Fun and casual little sweet treat!
25 Mar 2013A nice little sweet treat, especially if we are not intending to load a standard serving of cake or ice cream into our tummies ;p
The cake has a cake-exterior that opens up to a molten chocolatey centre. Gooey, slightly warm and niceeeee. Don't expect atas cafe standard, but I think S$2.90 a piece, it's really a good match for the quality vs price. A nice, fun and casual treat, especially if you are not intending to eat a standard slice of cake or dessert :)

Portions were too tiny!
24 Nov 2012My friend and I decided to visit Smoulder as some online reviews were complimenting its cute lava cakes. We weren't particularly bothered by how small the shop was as this was a takeaway place after all. However, we were definitely taken aback by how...minute their lava cakes were!
I know desserts often come in a small portions and quantity doesn't mean quality (and vice versa too). However, for the price of these lava cakes ($3.90 for one, with a spoonful of vanilla ice cream), I'd expected a more proportionate serving size. The medicore cardboard packaging, similar to a cardboard box without a lid, took away alot of its aesthetic appeal.
My friend and I tried two flavors-the original chocolate and the white chocolate matcha. The former was nothing exceptional and pretty disappointing, considering how we had such a hard time finding this shop in the first place. The latter had a unique taste, but as a matcha lover with experience, I believe it wasn't worth the hype. We left the premise feeling let down and unsatisfied.
One plus point was how the girl at the counter was friendly and willing to introduce their flavors to us. But in general, you can easily find nicer chocolate lava cakes elsewhere which are better worth their price.

love the taste & size
06 Oct 2012A must try if you love chocolate lava cake. The size is perfect & taste good. Best if you can heat it up a bit and with a scope of ice cream... They have quite a number of flavours but i only tried the signature dark chocolate one...
I also recommend this place for:
