Opened in December 2011, the new Spizza outlet at East Coast Road is full of surprises. After ten years in the business, Spizza is back with a wholly novel contemporary concept – with full length glass panels and soft, warm yellow lighting. The show kitchen right in the heart of the restaurant grabs your attention, where you can enjoy watching your orders be freshly prepared and sent into the custom-built wood-fired oven. It breaks all the barriers between your dish and its ingredients, bringing you the real story of how your food came about, rather than just be fed a typical meal from the central kitchen.
You can’t eat at Spizza without eating pizza. Not for the first ten times, anyway. Their newest addition to the pizza family – Rebecca ($18) – is white pizza with mozzarella, gorgonzola, cooked ham, and sun-dried tomatoes sprinkled with a healthy dose of rucola. Already, you can’t go wrong with the combination. While one would think that the mozzarella and gorgonzola would war to take the limelight, they actually complement each other, with gorgonzola winning by a slight margin with an additional bite usually not found in pizzas. Hence, the overwhelming taste of cheese is punctuated by sporadic bursts of pleasant sourness that keeps you on your toes while you enjoy the slice.

Got order wrong TWICE
14 Oct 2012Ordered the delivery online. They got order wrong ... TWICE and then didn't return our calls! We ended up paying for cold, soggy pizza including a $24 pizza we didn't receive. It was very disappointing.

It was a very last minute decision to dine at Spizza. I tried to tell myself not to have too high expectations because it was impossible that it could be as good as L’Operetta’s VPN pizzas.
Unlike Peperoni Pizzeria, the flavours here seem to be tweaked towards Singaporean taste buds and do not strictly follow the classic pizza combinations. The prices of the pizzas vary too, unlike Peperoni Pizzeria where it is a standard price for each size regardless of flavour. It is not nett price here too, but with Standard Chartered card you get a 15% off.
Calamari - $12.00++
Crispy Calamari rings with spicy ‘Pizzaiolo’ dip
The batter for this calamari was quite good, tasty, but would be better if crispier. The squid itself was a bit too soft. Overall, I still like this.
BARBARA (L) – $21.00++
Tomato, Mozzarella, Hot Italian minced Pork, red Onions, Olives
WANDA (L) – $23.00++
Tomato, Mozzarella, Buffalo Mozzarella, spicy Olives, Red Bell Peppers, cooked Ham, sun-dried Tomatoes
The ingredients on the pizzas were not very generously given. The cheese however, was in abundance, which was good, but for the Wanda pizza I couldn’t really make out where the buffalo mozzarella was. But what I felt was lacking big time is the tomato sauce on the pizzas. There was either too little sauce on them or that the sauce was lacking in flavour. Comparing to Peperoni Pizzeria who serves similar firewood pizza with this kind of base, the sauce from Pepperoni was much more flavourful enhancing the overall favour of their pizza. The pizza here was quite forgettable.
