Inspired by the standing sushi bars in Tokyo, the original branch of Singapore's Japanese restaurant opened in August 2009. A true standing concept, it received a warm welcome and with the emphasis on quality it was voted the #1 sushi bar and #1 for sashimi by the HungryGoWhere community.
Pretty little restaurant, I liked being in it. And I really liked $15 free flow Asahi for happy hour(s) from 5-7. The nigiri was well-balanced, but the maki rolls seemed a little light on fish. Probably because it is extra delicious fish and they want to save it for themselves...I would.
Basically this is the kind of place I would go to get a light dinner of sashimi, not for a fill-up sushi binge. Save the binging for the beer...
Gave this place a second chance and was glad we did! This time around the food tastes so much better and more selection of sushi!!! We waited about 45 mins for table of 3 on a wednesday night
The sushi was reasonably fresh. There's such a diversity and variety of items with some very creative names and unique options. i highly recommend the chirashi don, all salmon all the time, california handroll, and crabby chicken sushi.
Overall super cute and cozy place. Not your A grade cuts but pretty decent for the prices.
One thing though; the waitstaff, while not unpleasant, could do better with a bit more smiles and warmth. Ganbatte!!!
Totally disappointed with the restaurant and all the great reviews I read before making my way down to try thir salmon sashimi yesterday. The service was horrible and the staff was very rude. When I check with the staff and told them I had a reservation at 7. She (staff) simply brushed me off saying "reservation? also have to wait outside. no empty tables now" without even looking at me. I made a reservation which I believed the purpose of doing so is to 'book' a table in advance. However, I still had to queue for 30 mins ... Service and manners were ridiculous!
The food quality wasnt great and the salmon sashimi was near frozen and it was hard to eat. It tasted similar to beef tendon which I left after ordering 2 plates. I am definitely not going to recommend this place. Sadly to say, None of the qualities meets the basic expectations of a restaurant.
Standing Sushi Bar has a very casual and laid back attmosphere, where most people come after office hours to have a few drinks and small bites. What makes this place is famous for is their Monday Madness Promotion,($3 for 5 slices of salmon sashimi) and they also have different promotions for other days! Service during that day was prompt and quick. Advise to make reservations beforehand.
