Great food but very filling portions
10 Apr 2013Went to Strictly Pancakes with two friends under their insistence recently. They have sweet and savoury pancakes and both a worth a try.
I tried out the "WHAT-A-SPREAD!" pancakes ($11) under the sweet pancakes which are peanut butter pancakes layered with nutella and served with kinder bueno and vanilla ice cream. The first bite was heaven. But the medium stack of three pancakes frankly got tiring and I could only finish around three quarters of the pancake on my own.
My friend ordered the "BANANAS-SCOTCHED" pancakes ($11) which I took a bite of. Same story, the first bite was realy really delicious but it gets tiring and my friend could not finish it either. The pancakes are really really sweet, being quite literally drenched with syrup so do take caution in ordering this. The pancakes were served with the ice cream already half-melted so that did put a downer on the experience.
My other friend went for savoury and got the "CHICKEN A LA KING" pancakes ($13) which are much easier to finish mainly because you don't get tired of the savoury taste that faste as compared to just sugary goodness. The cream sauce that came with the pancakes were a great match with the pancakes and was what really made the pancakes edible for so long though the chicken was quite dry.
All in all, definitely worth a visit. The creation of dishes is definitely ingenious but portions are really too much for one person's serving. Many of the other patrons could not finish their pancakes too. If you do visit it, definitely go with enough friends to share the pancakes with. Maybe three people to two sets of pancakes, unless of course you have the appetite of a mammoth. Though there is good value-for-money given the serving size of the pancakes.

Gets boring after the first few bites.
09 Apr 2013There's been much hype and many were talking about the savoury pancakes at Strictly Pancakes. I went there with the intention for a lazy brunch on a weekday but the meal ended up to be too heavy for me.
I ordered the Garlic Buttered Prawns Pancakes ($14) as well as a Iced Vanilla Latte ($5). There were 3 pancakes with 2 prawns to each pancake. The pancakes were very thick and I only managed to eat slightly more than one pancake (after which I was struggling to eat). I wouldn't say they were fluffy - they were more of soggy. Very pungent garlic aroma, but after a few bites I got really sick and tired of eating.
In fact, the pancakes tasted really bland on it's own, if not for the garlic and the accompanying maple syrup. The prawns were average.
The iced vanilla latte was more of latte with added sugar. I couldn't really taste vanilla or any of that sort. Nevertheless, a refreshing drink but not worth paying $5 for.
Service was prompt (because there were few customers on a weekday) but nothing memorable. They also need to update the prices on their menu. The iced vanilla latte was written as $4.50 but it was in fact $5 when I made payment.
Overall, I didn't enjoy my meal at Strictly Pancakes because it was too filling. I wouldn't recommend this place for pancakes.

31 Mar 2013This place located at Prinsep Street is doing brisk business with students from nearby institutions.
I picked the Tiramisu pancakes (3 warm chocolate pancakes with chocolate flakes on top, vanilla sauce drizzled on the side and a scope of vanilla ice-cream) and iced café latte.
The portions are very filling. I looked around and almost all the patrons could not finish their pancakes, including myself.
