one word, EXCELLENT!

Came upon this lovely shophouse with a blod red front in circular rd, and the moment I stepped in, I was blown away, literally. They apparently have another shop near jalan sultan(which was far from what I expected since I was given a lasting impression from their other shop). We go to have lunch with colleagues. Since my office was abuss with their pies, given that they just opened recently at the area, we decided to give it a try and were impressed!. We were greeted warmly the moment we steeped in shop. Service staffs are warm and friendly and very patient with us, take time to explain hw the set meal is ($13= pie+2side+drink), even if it was busy that time. One of the staff(fat guy look like gal) very funny when explain about the pie, make you feel like you are comfortable and not pressure. In the end we buy the lamb rendang. Very nice, not like the usual rendang, its light and not heavy, redangs are usually heavy but not theirs, pastry is light also and is not very overwhelming, go well with the filling, and the filling is also generous. The side dish we take whipped potato and green salad. The potato very nice, but if they can give different dressing for salad would be better, as they have only balsamic dressing. Dessert we eat smore pie suggested by the staff, theyre recommendation is very good, but sometimes they talkvery fast, so dont understand. Overall, very pleasant experence, but a little expensive, but it is worth your money. The shop at circular rd have beer and wine also, I suggest for best dining experience, go to this circular road shop near boat quay, you will leave statisfied.( Jalan Sultan shop a bit dead).

Small piece of pie heaven

This cute little place sneaks up on you just when you've walked enough and getting hungry. Hard to spot unless you're really looking for it. They have a large variety of pies. The pies are good, but don't stand out amongst other places that have equally good pies. The choice is definitely much more than your average pie place. I've never used pies so many times in one paragraph.

Who ate all the pies? We did!

You can read my full review with pictures here: http://www.citynomads.com/reviews/article/168/who-ate-all-the-pies-we-did

When fellow City Nomads writer Hehzee mentioned to me that she had joyously stumbled across a gourmet pie shop in the Arab Quarter, I knew it would only be a matter of time before we'd be there sampling the goods. Yes, and because we Nomads don't hang around when we think we're onto a good thing - we were there precisely two days later.

The Gourmet Pie Company claims to have "the best pies in town". I'm usually dubious of such claims but I think, by gosh, they might jolly well be entitled to that claim! These guys are passionate about bringing the taste of a "truly great pie" to Singapore. And they're not lying. Think handmade, delicious, deep-dish pies filled with fresh and tasty ingredients.

Apart from the sheer tastiness of these pies, what is absolutely brilliant here, is the range - trust me, the only problem you will have is deciding what filling to go for!

Are you ready for the list? OK here it comes...(deep breath): Beef Bourguignon, Steak & Onion/ Cheese/Mushroom, Chicken & Leek/Mushroom, Thai Chicken Curry, Lamb Rendang, Lamb & Rosemary, Braised Pork, Vegetable Curry, Chilli Crab and Egg & Bacon. Pie-tastic!

Thankfully if you can't make up your mind, rather than going for one regular sized pie, you can go for a variety of small ones or as I dubbed it - pie tapas.

Every single pie we tried was absolutely delicious in it's own way - encased in perfect butter, flaky, pie crust, filled generously with chosen filling (no thinking....hmmm there's not much filling in there at this joint).

It was so hard to choose but after much deliberation we went for:

~ Beef Bourguignon

~ Thai Chicken Curry

~ Vegetable Curry

~ Lamb Rendang
