this casual japanese eatery falls rather in the lower bound of mid-range japanese restaurants in singapre – the food is decent enough for hump day (and any of those tough-going weekday nights), the menu extensive enough for repeat visits, and the price low enough to encourage the latter. think of this almost as a japanese cha chan teng – casual, family-friendly, but certainly not the sort of restaurant you bide time in. it’s a large extensive menu – almost confusing in the sheer choice you’re offered – all of which were decent. it’s easier to judge this all as food-court style japanese food (by which I mean decent interpretations of the cuisine rather than any skillful expert execution) – it’s certainly economical enough for you to visit and make your own judgement. I recommend staying away from the split-in-half mackerel dish though – it’s of the the slightly sundried, salted variety that’s rather harsh on the tongue and causes a heck of a thirst (unless that’s what you’re going for, of course).
watami is a japanese chain of restauarant that is just average. even though there are some nice food such as the ramen i think there are better places to go to. but so to say the desserts are still not that bad
Watami is a Japanese dining concept that serves decent enough Japanese food and a fairly reasonable price which makes it a popular choice amongst heartlanders. However, if you are a gourmet and are expecting something of much higher quality then I would suggest that you look elsewhere. One of my favourite item on their menu is the katsudon or pork cutlet rice in general. You can never go wrong with pork cutlet rice and if you are feeling thirsty halfway throughout the meal, do feel free to order some of their beverages as they have a rather interesting drinks and beverage menu. Price is ok if you are not too picky about Japanese food but as I said, there are plenty of better ones out there.
Ordered 2 Katsu Don. waited for almost 45min and no food appeared on the table, waitress had to reorder from us again and this time we waited 15minutes for our food.
Food are expensive and yet u get slow service and forgetful waiter/waitress.
Waited in queue patiently for about 15mins on a Sunday night, got our seats at around 8pm. Ordered kara miso ramen and a suki saki with beef + ocha. The ramen arrived quickly enough but i found the soup too salty and there it is not spicy at all. It does look exactly as the picture describes : ramen with one miserable slice of pork. The ocha did not arrive until we asked for it 15 mins later. The suki yaki also did not arrive until we asked for it after i had already finished the ramen and realised the suki yaki has not arrived. They had actually forgotten our order and immediately brought it to us within 5mins. Overall, i did not enjoy the food nor the service and i will not return again.
