    nothing fantastic

    31 Oct 2012
Full review and photos: http://foodiefc.blogspot.sg/2012/10/yayoiken-japanese-restaurant-bugis.htmlYayoiken a well-known Japanese restaurant chain specialises in serving Japanese-Western cuisine. The Japanese restaurant has come a long way with its first stall opened in Kayabacho, Tokyo more than 125 years ago! At that time, western cuisine was rare in Japan. Today, Yayoiken has 180 restaurants in Japan and 60 in Thailand. In Singapore, Yayoiken has two outlets. The first was opened Liang Court in December 2011 while it's second outlet is at Bugis+ which was opened in May 2012. Ordered the Miso Katsu Set which consisted of rice and soup along with a main dish (Miso Katsu) and two side dishes (Pickles and Beancurd). Yayoiken follows the traditional culinary concept called 'ichiju-sansai' which literally means 'one soup and three sides'. This refers to a three dishes (one main and two sides) along with rice and miso soup.Free flow of pickles, every table has a bottle full of 'tsukemono' pickles placed at the side. The Miso Katsu, pork cutlet simmered with miso paste (sauce) was served with potato and an egg. The Miso Katsu was well flavoured but too tough for my liking. In addition, the miso paste made the crust of the katsu soggy. I should have have realised that before ordering. The upside was that the the miso paste complemented well with rice.
Service wise, had a hard time getting the attention of the service staff. They seemed to be under-staff and unable to cope with the crowd.

      I love combos

      17 Sep 2012
Met up with 2 sweeties at illuma and Gra suggested this place for our dinner! I ordered S-22, which is a combo of hamburger steak, steak, chicken with bacon set. Although I wasn't asked for my preference for my steak's doneness, the steak was very tender. I'm very pleased with everything in the set. Initially I thought there will only be a small portion for each(pork/chicken/steak), surprisingly it's not! Quite substantial portion. Girls will love this because there's alittle of everything. :D

What's great about it was that all 3 of them tasted differently; all had different sauces and all were nice. They leaned towards strong taste(???). The combo also comes with 2 vege, bean sprouts and long beans. There were also fried potatoe cubes which went great with the mayo. The bacon is normal, full of fats. Pretty sinful. Though you'll feel kinda thirsty after you finished the set because it leans towards saltish that side. I really have nothing to fault for this set and it's only S$20!

Delighted with my set, Suan ordered the same. Did not try Gra's set, therefore won't comment. But she topped up S$2 to upgrade to clam soup. The fried squid came in very small portion as it's only like S$3plus. Just a littleeee tough for my liking. Will definitely patronize again! Thumbs up!!

Level 1 just beside the ice-cream parlor.

        Visit to new Bugis+

        05 Sep 2012
Was there for a very late lunch, and saw the restaurant while walking around.

It was a small and cozy place, with somewhat more privacy then the rest of the restaurants around.

Service was prompt, but cooking was really slow. There were already many customers waiting and upon ordering it took more than 15 mins for the food to arrive.

Good variety of selection available except for Ramen.
