ALIF, DISAPPOINTMENT
May 18, 2008Went to Bukit Gombak market the other day with my wife and children. Our family of 4 found a sit in the crowded coffeeshop and ordered some roti pratas. I ordered a plate of Malay Padang rice. The Teh Tarik I had is too sweet for me and there's not a single taste of Tea at all. As for the prata, it is a big serving but the flour is way too tough for my wife and my children. The curry is normal only, not as fantastic as I had initially expected. As for the rice I had, what a disappointment... the mutton can be better cooked and the fish is not fresh enough to be served on the table.! One thing good about this Makmak style shop is the fast service and polite staff. Still, I'll not be eating here again, I swear!! -
Prata, prata and prata
Jan 23, 2008Early in the morning (well not really early), meet up with sp, wh, and hy for breakfast. Prata’s at Alif Restaurant, a “prominent” coffee shop selling pratas at Bukit Gombak. I’m sure you have seen it before if you been to Gombak.
Anyway, breakfast is suppose to be early right? But we had sort of a brunch because someone was late. *i’m not blaming you all right? lol
Egg on the prata ($1.20)
Do note that this is not the normal egg prata, this one is the egg on the prata, different all right? But i cant remember the name of it though. Looks yummy though, next time i think i’ll have this instead of the normal egg prata
Egg Prata ($1.20)
Ahh.. this ons is the normal egg prata. See the difference already? : )
Cheese Prata ($1.50)
Melted cheese within the hot cripsy prata, well some sort like cheese on a pizza just that pizza is western and prata is indian? LOL!
Normal Prata ($0.60)
The normal one without any fillings, sp commented it was too tough, but the rest of us found it to be okay. Miss sp got tender tooth : )
Chicken Rice ($3)
The hungry-ghost (or rather soldier) Mr Ang & Mr Ong ordered chicken rice in addition to the pratas.
After which, we went to IMM, and they got psycho by me into eating cakes from Secret Recipe. Thats the next post guys : )

Yummy Yummy.. I've got Beehoon Goreng in my tummy
Aug 17, 2007
17 August 2007 : I decided to meet up with my 2 ex-T boys - JY & CM at this Gombak feeding establishment for dinner. We found a table and sat down but we had no idea what we should order. I got up and asked for 3 menus. The bloke responded with some degree of surprise "3 arh? so many?" And I said "Yeah got 3 pple mah.. i don't want to share" So.. i got the 3 menus and went back to the table to see what we can order.
We ordered :
1 beehoon goreng with egg & fried chicken
1 cheese prata
1 roti john
2 prata kosong
1 egg prata
1 teh tarik
1 teh with ice
1 can of lemon tea
TOTAL : $14.00
Roti John - the boys felt that the roti john "sucked.. cannot make it" I felt that the roti john was rock hard and dry.... if you throw it at a wall... the wall will develop hairline cracks. Bad choice ....
Pratas - the boys felt that the prata was ok.. and it came with a big plate of curry.
Beehoon Goreng with Egg & Fried Chicken - I absolutely loved my beehoon goreng. It was not oily at all. I put lots of red-sweet sauce on it(the same one they give when you order indian rojak). The fried chicken was nice and crispy. Good choice....
I also enjoyed my Teh with ice. It was nice and milky.. but not too sweet. Perfect !~
Ambience - well this is a coffee shop... so dont expect the surroundings to be clean. If you are not stuffy and overly delicate.... this can be a good place to eat and chat with friends.... Just be aware that cats do stroll around under the tables.
I'm not sure if i would return mainly because this is really far away from the shack i call home.Must Tries
Beehoon Goreng & Ayam Goreng
