Romantic or Girls night out

Introduced to this place by a couple of friends. I must say the food in this place must have received a lot of awards judging from the frames on the wall at the entrance. I do like the deco of this place, and ambience was rather nice for couples, except for this rowdy bunch of businessmen who happened to be drinking a bit too much ..at certain points, we couldnt even hear the music in the background....ok food wise, we had the usual duck confit, the soup and desert. I must say the portion is just nice, not too much/little. Service was friendly and professional too. Quite alright for a night out.

Great find

Yesterday, 4 of us went to this restaurant and were pleasantly surprised by its cosy interior. There were about 25 seats and 3/4 filled for the night.

Our food orders were

2 set dinners $151.80
- This can be the 4 or 5 course set. We took the former. It included 2 foei gras, 2 seafood chowder soup, 2 mini lemon sorbet, 1 black cod fillet, 1 duck confit, 1 crème brulee, 1 chocolate cake.

The duck deserve special mention as the skin was crisp while meat was tender.

1 seafood ragout $35.90
Big sized scallops and prawns. Fresh ingredients topped with tomato based sauce.

1 lobster pasta $28.90
Generous amount of lobster with angel hair pasta.

1 lemon sorbet $4.50

The portion for each main dish is perfect for one. I did not give much comments above because they are all just really good and doesn't stinge on the serving size. Service staff were attentive. We brought 2 bottles of wine and were decanted on request. With free corkage offered, I'll be back.

Good French Food

This little restaurant is at a corner and a little out of the way, but the food is great, service is great and ambience is intimate and cozy.

I went to the restaurant with my boyfriend and was pleasantly surprise with the quality of food.

I had seared tuna cappaccio with some jelly for my starter. It was very pleasant, but to be frank, it didn’t rock my world. Nonetheless, the combination of tuna, a kinda sweet jelly, garlic and rocket veg really went very well.

BF had mushroom soup with bits of truffles. Oooo.. that was great! One of the better mushroom soups around, especially with the truffles. If only there were more truffles bits...

My main course was the Duck confit. Once again, it was an above average duck confit, I had my personal best confit at Sage. Nonetheless, I did enjoy every piece of it, especially with the jam… the sweetness of the jam went really well with the saltiness of the duck.

BF’s main course was the highlight though. It was a very nicely done steak. You can taste the freshness of the beef and it was so perfectly made (at least to my taste!) So… I ended up eating my BF’s food instead. Ha.

For dessert, we ordered the warm choco cake to share. Ok, I am NOT a huge choco fan but this cake really did it for me. The cake was nicely warm, nicely paired with strawberries, sorbet and a slightly sour fruit to tame the sweetness of the chocolate. Although the cake wasn’t even that sweet in the first place. It was bitter sweet. Just the way I like it.

All in all, I enjoyed the experience and will love to go back again.

Must Tries: mushroom soup, warm Choco cake

Great Little French Dining Experience

Let me first just say I dont understand how this place can be producing such delicious food yet, be deserted on any night of the week. I took my husband here for his birthday after reading several complimentary reviews. We loved it!
There is an option of a 4 or 5 course dinner with a set price of around $75.00 But we opted for selecting our own meals a la carte. For starter we selected the escargot $15 (6 snails in garlic) which was aboslutely the best i have tried in a long time. For mains, my husband chose the much talked about confit d'canard $30 (duck leg served with seasonal vegetables and a croquette) and we asked to taste both sauces as one was from a set menu (hoisin and balsamic shallot jus) and staff were only too happy to comply. We loved the shallot jus as an accompaniment to the duck but the hoisin seemed a little predictable and not in keeping with the resteraunt style. When we questioned this, the staff said they were trying to cater to the people in the area (its situated in china town). For my main, I selected the Lamb rack $50(served with a lemongrass pesto, and lamb jus with seasonal vegetables and a potato gratin). The pesto or thin sauce was a really interesting take on a side sauce and i only wish there had been more of it. It seemed a little overpriced at $50 as there were only 3 lamb frech cutlets but i really am being picky as I realise in Singapore, lamb racks are expensive and many places serve lamb loins as cutlets which this place thankfully did not. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal as did my husband. For desert we tried the house special chocolate fudge pudding which was small, yet rich and comforting. I selected the orange souffle which i personaly felt could have had more orange segments and been less eggy in flavour but in saying that it was light and enjoyable all the same. In terms of service, my only complaint was the accountant sat with his lap top open on one of the empty tables. Apart from this, they were pleasant, attentive, and happy to chat about the resteraunt which had moved from a location near tanjong pagar bridal shops due to lack of business. We brought our own wine and they chilled it to perfection and topped our glasses all night without trying to encourage us to purchase a second bottle. Oh yes, and when the staff realised it was my husbands birthday they brought him a cheesecake with a candle lit on top and sang him happy birthday which was so nice. In response to other reviewers comments, the music playing was norah jones, very relaxing and the lighting was fine for me.
I would reccomend anyone to give this place a try, the prices were no higher than dempsey hill, clarke key or boat key and i felt we got much more value for money. If this place were at any of these locations I believe it would be fully booked every weekend. We both walked away happy with the experience, the food and atmosphere. Give this place a try.

Must Tries: Lamb rack, Duck Confit, and esgargot appetiser

Give me the cow!

Sorry if the title misled you, but I didn't have the luxury of the steak as yet...

It was for a colleague's farewell that we've decided to have a meal here knowing jolly well that it'll burst our pockets, but we were lucky to enjoy corkage waver for the 2 reds we brought along and we were kindly given a discount! -- which made the meal more worth well!

We had Fried Prawns and a Salad for starters. The prawns were big and juicy and went really well with the dipping sauce! *slurps* Salad greens were fresh, crunchy and sweet! Came with my favourite vinegrate dressing so yums yums for that!

I ordered the Duck Leg Confit (which I know they were famous for cos' I saw the newspaper cut out in front of their restuarant). WOW, it was pretty amazing really. Having had more than enough TOUGH meat at duck rice stores outside, it really surprises me that duck meat can actually be so tender! It takes little effort to slice the meat off the thigh and the skin was so nicely done, it was just crispy without oozing fats (think peking duck's skin after it's cold). I like the sauce that came with it very much too! In all it was a terrific experience for me! I tried my colleague's tenderloin which I thought was nice + hearty portion (lady's standard I reckon). Despite its "redness" - medium rare, there was no pungent bloody taste to it! Another colleagues' Seafood pasta was great too! Tomato base made it appetising and the seafood was of top quality! Only complaint was that the sauce for the fishes were too saltish, and the chicken too dry.

We had a souffle and warm choco cake to share. Portion wasn't too big but it ended the dinner nicely!

Nice chat with the boss after dinner made me yearn for the wagyu beef though...Grade 9 and reasonably priced...I hope I have the chance to come back here again!!!

Oh oh, service was great of cos! But we had to replenish our wine glasses ourselves once, twice or thrice? Plus they didn't change our glasses after a bottle was done so... hmm. Points deducted for that.

Ambience was comfortable in the evening, I wonder how it'll be like in the day?

Must Tries: Duck Leg Confit
