| Good food, Great Service
The food is good and I would put some of the dishes even better than Muthu or Apollo. The Chicken Nattu Koli Masala is wonderful and spicy. The fish head curry is quite shiok too. And this place serves north indian cuisine as well. I tried the naan, kebabs, paneer masala. Cheaper than Delhi rest. or other north indian places along race course lane. The cooks are all from India and its glad to know that the tastes are the same as in India.
All in all good food, great variety and great service and there is no 10% service charge :) |

| Good food and well spaced
Anjappar has good food for both veggies and meat eaters - those who want to experience good Indian food without too much spice, this is the place to go. |

| Try the branch opposite Mustafa
Agree with the reviews below that the flagship branch of Race Course Rd can get overcrowded, with a corresponding dip in the quality of service.
We've eaten several times at the other branch on Syed Alwi Rd opposite Mustafa and, even on a weekend, it wasn't as busy and the service was much quicker and friendlier.
You can't fault the food either. I love Chettinad cuisine and this place does it the best of anywhere in Singapore. Favourites are the mutton uppu kari (dry and spicy, with the fennel, clove and cinnamon flavours perfectly balanced and not overwhelmed by chilli) and the chicken nattu koli masala, which leaves you bathed in chilli heaven; mouth on fire, head popping, endorphins surging...wonderful. |

| Good food at a good price
Tuesday (14 Aug 2007). I had lunch here today with my colleagues and a foreign guest (7 of us in total). When I stepped into the restaurant, the first thing I noticed was that it was brightly lit and clean. The tables were already neatly laid out with the dining wares. They use solid marble-like table tops with disposable paper placemats. So the table was clean and there weren't any visible curry stains on an old table cloth like what you would find at some other restaurants. Very deserving of a high rating for ambience. In addition, it is surprisingly high-tech - the waiters take down your orders on a PDA, and there are motorised sliding doors that lead to the toilets.
We each ordered a biriyani (chicken, fish or mutton) for ourselves, and a few side dishes. My Chicken Biriyani came in a bowl and I scooped some out onto my plate. It consisted of a chicken drumstick and a hard-boiled egg with basmati rice. The biriyani was really fragrant and filling. We were served a curry gravy together with the biriyani. The Aloo Gopi Masala, which is potato and cauliflower in curry was very tasty. I enjoyed it tremendously. This was the first time I had Sura Puttu (shark meat minced with egg). It was fantastic. We were served with papadoms as well, which were freshly made and crispy.
I thoroughly enjoyed my meal here. I had so much food to eat that I was still feeling full when it was time for dinner. I'm "not sure" if I would return because that would be dependant on my Indian colleagues bringing me back here. |

| South Indian Food
I have been to Anjappar a few times since they last opened. Whilst they serve good food, there are few bugs they definitely need to fix. One, the staff - there are only few employees armed with wireless PDAs who can take orders. The rest in red vests just run around picking up used plates or setting tables. If some more of these could be made to take orders we could have a more busier kitchen and faster turn-around of tables. Attitude of the support staff need to be improved. There are 2 types of the 'red vest' men - either are too quiet (make no sound) or they are rude and and abrupt. The place gets crowded on weekends and queues can form outside and service become slow and bad.
The food being served is good and value for money. The biryanis are quite good with special mention on the mutton & chicken (Natu Koyi) varieties. But after few years on the same menu, they really need to do something to change the menu. The current one is boring (been running since they started) and leaves nothing to imagination.
A good place to dine especially when you just want to have a meal with minimum fuss or a quiet dinner |
