Tri pepper spaghettini with soft shell crab
29 Apr 2013Arbite - http://phuachiuyen.wordpress.com/2012/08/25/arbite-66a-serangoon-garden-way/
We ordered the tri pepper spaghettini with soft shell crab to share. It’s an awesome plate of unique and springy noodles texture coupled with a cute crab. The crab was oily though. The overall taste was flavourful with good spices. Very refreshing bites!
One good/bad thing is that Arbite’s interior is quite small. It looks like it could only hold a maximum of 40 people. We saw that most tables were reserved. Lucky us that we managed to grab a seat without reservations!
Oh! My fav part of Arbite is the lego deco on the walls as we climbed the stairs up to the shop. Creative!

Unsure about the hype

We ordered a croque madam and the arbite breakfast, both were at $15.90. The croque madam was extremely forgettable - I thought the choice of foccacia wasn't great, the fillings though nice were too little and the plate badly plated. The arbite breakfast was alright - wasn't a fan of the brioche as I felt it didn't gel well with the rest of the plate. The veal bratwurst wasn't well grilled enough, but everything else was ok. Coffee was so-so, place was cramped and noisy and yet there's a queue to get in on the weekends.

Worth a visit!

I visited Arbite with my friends for lunch, not brunch like most people. It was pretty full but the ambience was nice - open, airy and lively.
Eggs Benedict ($11.90++) - found it average! They had overcooked the eggs slightly, and they used honey baked ham instead of the expected parma ham, which was a little strange to me. However, $11.90 is a great value for money to pay for eggs benny compared to other brunch places.
Pappardelle with Mushrooms and Parma Ham ($19.90++) - A must try in my opinion! Drizzled with truffle oil, creamy, mushroomy and - with the missing parma ham from the eggs benedict! Though a little pricey for pasta, it's filling and worth coming back for more.
Croque Madam ($15.90++) - Average and forgettable. Not a fan of foccacia bread - though it does have truffle and parma ham, i don't really like the proportions (not enough truffle, too much bread, and only one poached egg!). Miss this!
Moussaka ($16.90++) - The dish I ordered! This is a vegetarian option, but I totally don't mind not having the meat because it's deliciously warm, cheesy, filled with my favourite eggplants and mushrooms, all baked together in a single pan. Try this if you don't mind not having meat!
Arbite is a worth a visit - there were many other delicious sounding dishes on the menu that I wish I could have tried but didn't have to chance to! I may be back again some day :)
