AWON - Korean Steamboat

Warning: If you are someone who prefers big spread of items in buffets, DO NOT READ ON....

Here at Awon, it's more for people who can eat alot!! I like the korean steamboat pot. Steam-Grill the meat on top while its meaty juices trickled down the sides to the soup "canal" with all the vegetables and etc. I love to soak the korean "tanghoon" in the flavourful broth later on when it got infused with the flavours.. Ooo I think i had 5 plates worth of that.. hahahah it's TAT good!! Yumyum

Hmm i wonder where can i get this for CNY steamboat ah? Any ideas?

Variety is not alot i must say but the friendly wait staff and lady boss makes the whole place extra welcoming. Lastly, with so many credit card discount perks and its very wallet friendly prices, it is probably the students best hangout place!

Friendly boss and good service made up for the lack of spread!

I have been to this place for quite a few times and liked it.
*Warning* If you are the kind who are looking for a big buffet spread, this is not for you.

Otherwise, they have 3 kinds of meat, prawns, vegetables, mushroom and the tang hoon i think. More of a healthy sort of BBQ i would say. They have this groove in their hot plate that they fill with soup. So while grilling, the meat juices drip down into the small river of soup. That means after you finish grilling your meat, the soup actually gets tastier and sweeter! I think the soup is the main highlight for me though =p

Other than that, they do serve side dishes that are refillable to your hearts content. So far they serve 5-6 side dishes normally. I simply adore their stew tofu cubes which is slightly sweet with a hint of spicyness. Other side dishes include ikan bilis, kimchi, hotdog, spinach etc. Pretty good service staff too. Never fail to get what you want with a smile. Would definately go back to try their ala carte menu!

not worth the bucks

popped by for a gathering coz one of my friends thought it could be quite good judging by the crowd.

the spread was terrible. was there even a spread? we had chicken, beef, pork slices, prawns, mushrooms, veggies, chilli sauce n sunkist orange, watermelon. pathetic.

very family style korean food but the price is really too high for very normal food.

Disappointed!

Will never step into this place again.
1. Too little varities - 1 type for each meat (chicken/pork/beef). Too slow into replenishing the food resulting to the prawns served is still frozen!
2. Their meats r all sweet, meaning to say all taste the same!
3. The place seems run down n has a smell..

Must Tries: non

Pleasant place

I was at Awon for one of "Witches and Mermaid" dinner outing.

The restaurant looks sleepy and a bit "no-business-ish" to me when I stepped in. The buffet items also looked pretty basic... In short, it does not look like a place we girls would make a lot of noise about... That is… until we sat down and took our first bite of Kimchi.... Ma-she-suh-yo~~~! ^_^

The Hotpot was fun to play with. You sort of BBQ thin slices of meat moistened with not oil, but stock! So yay! No to excess fat... A "must-toss" ingredient in your hotpot is the humble "Dangmyeon" (Korean Tung-Hoon / glass noodle). I can't remember how many helpings of that we girls had... =P We washed our happy meal down with Korean beer... Ah... That was also nice.

Service was also cool. The waiter served and topped ingredients promptly. The Korean lady boss was also very courteous and spoke reasonably good English. We girls noted that different photos of Korean celebs were attached to each copy of the menu. She cheerfully explained that those were for promoting up-and-coming Korean shows on cable TV. ^_^

One more thing I like about Awon is that you will not be "smelly" at the end of dinner, so people won't shuffle away from you on the MRT on the way home... Those who'd dined at Seoul Garden know what I mean. O.o

Verdict: I'll be back!

Must Tries: Everything!!! Ok ok... Dangmyeon...
