Ice cream fix in Dempsey hill
07 Feb 2013Favourite haunt for ice-cream is in Ben & Jerry's in Dempsey Hill - great setting, great desserts.
Most dessert lovers would focus on the must haves like the Merlionster and Cookie Affair but I personally love their milkshakes - thick and creamy and the way it should be!
Do check out my blog for my other hangouts!

Beautiful place, quality but costly desserts.
29 Jan 2013I was there on a typical weekday afternoon as I was free and it was relatively empty apart from a few office workers having a light tea break. As with the entire Dempsey Hill catered to mainly expatriates, the interior of Ben and Jerry's was dim yet beautiful and, to the extent of being a little vintage. I really like the ambience there.
I ordered the Double Brownie Special with 2 scoops of ice cream - New York Chocolate Fudge Chunk and Strawberry Shortcake, which are 2 very contrasting flavours. I totally didn't expect the portion to be so big and I was struggling to finish everything by myself. It was sinful eating so much and I gave up finishing it in the end. I was also surprised that the cost was hefty. I guess the Double Brownie Special was meant to be shared and not eaten alone.
The brownie was extremely rich - which also meant it was very filling. Very sweet and chocolatey. Served warm with chocolate sauce, it really gave me a big boost of sugar rush even before I delved into the ice cream. The brownie was so overpowering the ice cream didn't leave much of an impression in me. An irony - since Ben and Jerry's are most famous for their ice cream. One thing though - I noticed their cutlery (i.e. plates and forks) have several scatches on it and seem aged.
All the staff were friendly, very casual and patient at the counter. Still, what impressed me most was the interior decoration of the place. As it was in the afternoon, there was no live band on performance yet.
