Delicious cheesy pork

I had good recent memories of the pork cordon bleu (called 'cheesy pork' here) at Maxwell, but that branch has closed. The new location at Block 18 is a stone throw's away from the old Toa Payoh address that was listed in TODAY.

I ordered the same dish, which now costs $6.90. It's essentially a slim pork fillet folded in two to sandwich a slice of ham and lots of melted cheese (watch for it oozing out when you cut it!) and then breaded.

The lad manning the stall at that time provided cheerful and polite service. The pork was delicious, tasty without being salty - the same goes for the ham and cheese within - and not too oily. The strong flavours made it difficult to taste the sides though. The mash tasted alright but it was a little watery (the potato dish changes daily). The carrots, long beans and celery were nicely cooked and retained their sweetness. I'd have these over baked beans any day but I also miss the apple coleslaw that I previously had.

The prices at Benny are steep and the portions small compared to other Western stalls but Benny offers better quality generally (aside from today's mash) and different choices. I'll probably return to try their other dishes and desserts, especially as the new location is more accessible (the other end of the block is along the busier Lorong 6).

P.S. If the rest of the family isn't fine with that, let them help themselves to the stuff sold at the Block 22 market/hawker centre.
