Satisfaction

After a weekend at Rawa - a group of us settled into Bombay Cafe to end the weekend 'right' - and I was incredibly content after this meal. It was a perfect way to end the weekend.

Reading the menu was a vegetarian, Indian-loving gals dream! I was happy we had a big group so could order lots of dishes to sample and share without damaging our wallet or tummy!

Thank goodness I didn't have to make choices - we passed that on to the token indian in the group. Black dhal like it is supposed to be, chaats that I could make a meal out of, dum aloo like we make at home... was wonderful!

The only things I was dissappointed with was the masala chai - not enough masala and no ginger in it... but I will forgive them.

Must Tries: everything... that is my goal

Bombay Bourgoise

I've always liked Indian food, of the streetside variety (think 24hr roti prata). However, I never dared venture into this distinctive black and magenta conclave despite passing by it almost every day of my Sec 4 life in Chung Cheng. This April Fool's, I finally got the (financial) backing of my father to have our Sunday family lunch there. It's not that I'm broke, just that I hoped to order lotsa lotsa dishes in small servings to satiate my curiosity about whether they taste as good as their names are interesting.

Bombay Sizzler ($15) came on a hot plate with vegetable curry, some chunky paste and rice. Bombay Sandwhich ($6) plus fries and greens. Well-balanced and fitted nicely into my sis mouth. It was aptly accompanied by a Chocolate Milkshake ($5). I had a Falooda - Dry Fruit ($6) equivalent to Malay chendol, I liked the crunchy nuts and sago seeds but not the jelly that tasted oddly of cough mixture. Next, Garlic Naan ($4), which was a tad oily. My mum and I snacked from the light eats such as Mushroom Kathi Roll ($10) like Chinese Popiah but with some green herby dip instead, and Ghobi Manchurian ($8), basically cauliflower stewed in a sweet and spicy sauce, bursting with flavour and vaguely like BBQ sauce. Last but not least we had a Rocket Kulfi ($4) Indian ice cream. It was hard and long and a little wrong-looking. My father had to hack it into pieces, but we didn't finish it.

The waiter who took our order cancelled the TWO dishes which I ordered when my father was worried that we'd exceed our stomach's capacity. (As if! More like his wallet hee..) I forgot their names but both are chef's recommendations. So yeah, I was a little pissed. Doesn't he know that the children hold great influence over the family's purchases? But another waiter saved the day (and their reputation for good service) by being extra thoughtful and sincere. Those little things like noticing a stacked plate and offering to clear it up and also remembering not to fill up the water glasses as we were leaving soon. Perhaps it was because we were conspicuously the only Chinese family during that bustling afternoon.

Oh, the toilet might be a little unconvenient for the elderly or disabled. I had to exit and go up an adjacent staircase to the second level of the shophouse. But the two cubicles were clean and a row of chairs were there for waiting ppl in the event of long queue.

The best part was, the whole experience was not only appetizng but visually stimulating, the plasma tvs were showing snippets of Bollywood's answer to MTV. Really got me hooked. What I liked was that the love stories did not dscriminate - young and old, rich and poor, sexy and romantic; all bases were covered. All those sinuous shaking and whoa, no skinny bodies there lol~

Must Tries: Hmm..I'll tell you again
