ermmm...pork oko...okok leh

Buddy wanted to try this place while I was sceptical after reading the poor reviews, but my moto is to "try new food whenever possible".

Over all the okonomiyaki-OKO were not bad. I was expecting an OVERWHELMING taste of sweet and savory but it turned out to be quite alright.

My preference was for the pork OKO ($12.80), as there was sufficient succulent 3-layer bacon pieces and shredded vegetables which was complemented by the spongy pancake base layer. However, the topping sauce was as expected, overwhelmingly SWEET. Personally I don't find this kind of sweetness to complement the savory meat and veg. If I do return I will asked for less mayo sauce in the mixture of sweet sauce and mayo topping.

I did not like the complicated taste of the Moonlight OKO ($14.80). It was similar to pork oko fillings with additions of prawns and sunny side up egg topping. This resulted in a complicated taste which did not gel, I could not really taste the flavorful pork like in the pork oko. The sweetness was just right though, it was not as sweet as the pork oko.

Fried Oyster ($5.80) was reaaaalllly yummy, succulent juicy oyster encased in crispy skin!

Prawn Mayo ($8.80) was a dissapointment. Not crispy and pale.

I might return if and when I have a craving for pork oko, but not anytime soon. Enjoy the photos.

OKOS for singapore?

decided to try out this place since they claimed to have a long history in Japan. after trying it - I don't think they will survive long in Singapore.

we went there last friday for dinner and there wasn't any queue - that's probably coz it's new and not many people know about this place (yet).
so we ordered some starters + egg okos and fried noodles.
they said the oko will take 10-15 mins. that's ok. I have something to munch on first.

the noodles came after 15 mins and we gobbled it up. too dry and hard for my taste but I was too hungry to care.
then we waited patiently for the oko to arrive. people that came after me already received theirs. What's going on?
after 30 mins I ask the restaurant manager where my okos was and she came to say that it'll just be out in a sec.
I gave her another 5 mins and other people will still getting served.

they clearly forgot about my order and they were just making it.
too bad. I asked for the bill and finished the rest of my dinner at Tampopo instead.

Botejyu = Mei de ju? 没得救?

Very bad leh.. We went there after trying the rest of the new Jap foods there like Tampopo etc (ooooookkk lah...) but this one a bit not worth it.

We went upstairs and found the restaurant is wrapped around the escalator with 3 different queues for 3 different purposes.. Very strange. 1 for going in, so Q for seats. 1 for coming out, so queue to pay $$. The last one is queue to watch the cooking.. (huh?!)

Anyway, the typical Japanese plastic food looks so appetizing.. We decided on the Moonlight Okos and I wanted the piggy Modan. We also ordered the edamame and fried cuttlefish..
The edamame is cold but it looks special with its stalks not separated from the pods. But I like my edamame HOT, this is ice cold. And then we waited. and waited.. and waited.. then decided that we will order another cuttlefish, cos the cuttlefish is GOOD!! it's crispy, hot but not oily. yummy.. and then we waited some more. then my boi's Moonlight Special arrived..

Then I tried his.. Not bad. This okos comes with seafood topped with pork but no noodles one.. Is with turnip (I think).. or water chestnuts (?? likely but not very possible) Then we waited some more.. Until my boi finallly dragged out his meal and finished his okos, my pork modan arrived. It's the one which you can get in Taka basement, with the noodles and cabbage one... WHY?!?! Why so late?! Why take so long? Of course the presentation is good. Check it out!
So I understand what's the 3rd Queue for... After your meal, and you exit from the 2nd queue, you walk to the glass 'aquarium' and look with amazement: why the noodles, and cabbages take almost an hour to reach my table?!

Enuff said. I won't come back again, sorry.. Cos it takes longer to wait for the food than for me to eat and enjoy my food. That's just wrong.

However, the service is worth commenting and I always appreciate the cashier asking customers or advising us on the in house promotions. The cashier asked if I have Citibank credit card as there will be 10% discount. Hence I was happy to keep the other card and used the Citibank one. Originally was about $47+, but after discount is $42+.

Japanese pancake

This new restaurant that recently opened at Liang Court is attacting quite a dining crowd.

The place's speciality is a form of Japanese savoury pancake or okonomiyaki. Decided to try all 3 available okos on the menu! Takes a while for the food to arrive, be prepared to wait 15-20mins during peak hours, but it's worth the wait.

However, I'm a bit puzzled why a lot of the items on the menu were not available. Overall, the food and service was not too bad. Will probably patronize again once this new setup settles down.
