Lousy food....
14 June 2008 : My PH gang - XM, JTING & JC - decided to gather here for food and drinks since XM flew back from a faraway land. I made a reservation for 630pm.
We ordered :
ribeye steak in black pepper sauce x 2 ($18 each)
grilled fish fillet ($18)
Floris Passion ($13)
Floris Ninkeberry ($13)
Flensburger Pilsner ($12)
SLIDE SHOW
The food was bad. (frozen vegetables were hard. chips were cold, steak was lousy)
The different types of beer we ordered were great.
I will probably not return to have food here... but i will come here when i want to tip back a couple of beers.

| Bet you didn't know knuckle could taste so good
The one thing that sets this german pub apart from the rest is definitely the cook. She didn't hail from some high end european cooking school...more like the school of big woks and steel ladles.
This is possibly one of the (if not THE) oldest German pub in Singapore. Tucked away in a neat corner in the basement of United Sq and you really wouldn't know its there till the crowd starts pulling in during happy hour in the evening.
For those in the know, this is a lovely place for a quiet lunch and the best pork knuckle bee hoon you'll ever have. You can't get any more asian fusion than that lah. Not too oily or dry. Bee Hoon is just nice with enough bite and speckled with pieces of pork knuckle. Only thing is, we ordered a portion for 4 which I thought would be quite huge.... but honestly, I could have that portion all to myself on a very hungry and greedy day.
The sausages here are fat and juicy with enough mustard selection to clear any form of sinus you have. From whole grain to green to sweet to spicy.
The pork knuckles are roast to a crisp on the outside and the meat falls right off the bone.
Other than the German fare, you can expect perinnial favourites like fish and chips, chicken chop and the likes on the menu. |

Beer guzzling place with EPL
22 September 2007 : I came here with EO, LT & RL for dinner. This is my 3rd visit here.
We ordered :
- Ribeye steak x 2
- Sirloin steak
- Chicken wings
- Sausage platter
- Jug of beer x 2
I had the Ribeye steak. It was a good size and very tender and the meat retained sufficient juices. The sausage was nice too. The chicken wings were a disappointment – they tasted as if they were re-fried.
This is a good place to guzzle down beer while watching EPL. |

| Decent grub with beer
Saturday (22 Sept 07). Came here for dinner with JC, EO and LT. We arrived at about 6 PM, and it was still empty. We ordered:
2 ribeye steak
1 sirloin steak
1 plate of chicken wings
1 sausage platter
2 jugs of beer
I had the sirloin steak. It was average, but decent. The meat was tender and cooked just right for a medium-rare. I liked the sausage that was served, and the potato salad. The chicken wings were okay, and the beer refreshing.
The service here is friendly and polite. |
