Disappointing experience!

After a great experience at Tapas Wine Bistro, I had this craving for more tapas and that is why I made my way to Bungalow Tapas which had this interesting canopy which gave their alfresco dining area a strong identity. The place really looks very cool and I thought that my girfriend and I would be treated to a great experience like the one we had at Tapas Wine Bistro at Holland V!

To our disappointment, the service staff were not very attentive when we were at the entrance. We had like to signal to them that we were looking for a table for 2. But it was alright as we did not want to dampen our spirits for a great dinner! :)

We ordered their paella, foie gras, and their prawns. And to our astonishment, the foie gras which costs $19++, was served in a very small serving, definitely not what we were expecting and the prawns were just so so. Luckily we ordered their paella which at least filled our stomaches. The paella was rather good as compared to their other tapas. One thing that upsetted us is that we asked their service staff for their opinion, and they recommended us the foie gras and that really turned out to be the most expensive tapas and not a very good one!

But anyway, after dinner, we did not have the mood to have dessert there so we made our way to baker's inn that was just around the corner! And the experience there really made up for the disappointing experience at Bungalow Tapas!

I do hope their service there will be more up to standard in future if I ever make my way there again! :)

Below Expectation

It was a balmy Wed night that I went to this restaurant with wife and two friends. The outdoor area was closed due to light circuitry problem which was potentially dangerous (according to one server).

I had made a reservation thinking it would be crowd infested but no, there were barely 2 tables filled at 730pm. This got better later in the night. No one attended to us upon our arrival. There was only one visible lady server. We had to approach the bar guy to indicate our presence. Quite lax service I thought but iced water was served promptly.

For food, we shared everything since it was a tapas place. When I asked what were his recommendations, he mentioned all the tapas that were of the highest price. Not a tactful move.

Appetizers: Garden salad, Soup (can't remember what it is)
Tapas: Fried potato in saffron sauce, Pan seared scallops
Mains: Hot dog platter, Seafood paella
Drinks: White peach sangria, Fruit juice

The tapas were rather good. Ingredients were fresh and serving size was adequate for 4 persons. The hot dog platter had 3 different varieties and was average. There was no accompanying sauce and we had to request for mustard. I'll give the paella 7.5/10 for its buttery rice and sizeable portion. However, the sangria is a rip off. At $15, it came in a white wine glass which is easily gulpable in one go.

Unfortunately, I think Tapas tree at Clarke Quay offer better variety and ambience. This place was quiet (not cosy) and food is at best on the average side.

Once bitten... twice... slightly shy.

I decided to go back to tapas after my birthday hoo-ha because I had vouchers to clear (I overpaid over hundreds of dollars and only have like 90 bucks of vouchers.) and I wanted to give my friend a treat.

I ordered the lamb tapas and although the taste was there, though a bit too boring, it was REALLY pricey for the portion. I was like, is that my lamb kebab? Even the 6.70AUD lamb kebab I bought from an aussie stall is bigger than this SGD18 one. Ridiculous!

However, the chicken that my friend orderd, had a healthy portion with a big smack of potatoes. Guys will dig it.

We had a side of sausages and it was also pathetic with the price.

Overall, even though spending the vouchers were like spending my own money, I felt better to use the voucher because it would be CRAZY heart pain to see me spend physical money on food like this.

I mean, sure, the place is beautiful, BUT THE SERVICE STINKS!!

OMG, IT REALLY STINKS.

When I walked in, the chef and cook were sitting outside the restaurant smoking- fine, that's okay, when my friend and I walked into the restaurant, we stood there for a good 10 minutes and confused whether or not they are open.

There was man standing at the bill counter absorbed in his OWN WORLD, who did not even realise there were two customers standing there in an EMPTY restaurant.

GEE! I was SO SO appalled. When he took our orders, he did not even SMILE ONE BIT. He was stern and did not even PRETEND to be nice. NO water refil, nothing.

HELLO!!!! THIS PLACE NEEDS TO IMPROVE ON THEIR SERVICE. SERVICE IS SO SO BAD. I can't believe it!

I topped up extra cash and was waiting for the small change, but guess what, THE DUDE DECIDED for me, THAT I DIDN'T NEED my small change and just spent 15 mins on the register.

My friend and I just walked out, and I told myself, that's the last place I'm ever going again.

Dear management, please save the drama for your momma...

I agree that it's wrong to advertise one price and then REQUIRE their customers to order a $9 drink. It's deceiving.... Why don't they advertise a free buffet and require their customer to order a free flow drinks for $37????

This being said, I still like this place. Sure it's not freshest or the best tasting food, but what do you expect from a buffet? If you want your money's worth, skip the starchy food and wait out for the seafood.

The staff here are quite polite and friendly. Empty plates were promptly removed and drinks are often refilled.

All in all, I would probably return to this establishment.

Heavily advertising worked.. ONCE.

I was looking for a nice place for me to host my birthday party and since I've seen some photos of bungalow, I decided to give it a shot since they've been heavily advertising on this site!

Well, all sounded good until the day of my birthday itself. There was no system, the person who negotiated the deal with me was not even around, he left! No one communicated to me about money matters and charge me "any how" according to another person and another person, bla bla bla.

It was so embaressing to ask them to check properly bcause you think they would be more careful than that! But it was just disappointing.

The (alcoholic) drinks to be honest, had too much syrup and one called bubble gum tasted like medicine, my little sister drank it accidentally and pointed the same thing out.

The food, like the previous review, was patchy and it felt like it was made in a whim and not much thought was put into it. The beef too hard etc. The menu looks good but I really doubt the taste and skill has much effort and the ambience was the ONLY saving grace.
