Having relocated from their original store at Changi Airport Terminal 3 (which is only a takeaway store), Butter Studio has now moved to Jalan Besar, where now it has a dine-in space and still offers the same variety as their previous outlet.

They now have all-day brunch!

Sweets selection

And the cupcakes, cakes, tarts and drinks menu!

The Sea Salt Caramel Nutella Tart ($6.90), which is one of their signature items, is satisfying. The Nutella, mixed with the sea salt caramel and accompanied with walnuts on top, tasted rich. The tart crust is firm and not too crumbly.

Yet another option for bakes and cakes within the Jalan Besar area (and it's also rather convenient since it faces the main road!)

Was here on Sunday from about 4 till 5.30. None of the pastries on the menu were available aside from a few cupcake flavours and 2 tart flavours. Kept being told by the staff that "they're baking a cake and it should be out in 10 mins". Only saw the cake when was about to leave...

service is good despite only one person at the counter. there was an average of 3-4 tables occupied each turnover. from the review here. , cakes seem to be the signature dishes. but I have breakfast delicacies. see pics. and they were horrible. flip over the sunshine side , I can see the black burnt stuff sticking to the egg. result of not cleaning the hot plate after frying it previously. the cooks - pls don't be lazy. there was only 3-4 tables occupied. wld I return ? yes. but please improve.

Full Butter Studio review here: http://ivanteh-runningman.blogspot.sg/2015/04/butter-studio.html

Founded in 2011 by owner Shannon Lua, Butter Studio has since gained a name for its excellent bakes - cupcakes, cakes, and tarts. Ever since it expanded from a takeaway kiosk to its own cafe in 2013, Butter Studio has still been drawing in folks who love a good cupcake, brightening the eclectic atmosphere of Jalan Besar.

Ambience at Butter Studio is rather nostalgic and quirky. Repurposed from the family's old photo studio, the warm, inviting space is lined with mismatched but comfortable furniture, and the walls are decorated with items ranging from kitchen baking tools, to quirky quotes, to retro gadgets. The kitchen, situated behind, perfumes the place with the wonderful fragrance of fresh bakes.

Service at Butter Studio is partial self-service, where ordering and payment is done over the counter, though staff serve orders to your table. I find staff to be rather knowledgable on the various cupcakes and menu items, able to answer basic questions. They're friendly enough, though they don't offer greetings when you enter / exit, and you're also supposed to seat yourself.

Food at Butter Studio is halal certified, and revolves around a small menu of main courses, and their fantastic bakes. The main courses are quite filling, and mostly American or British inspired dishes. Taste is mostly decent, with some misses. But the standout items here are their cakes, cupcakes, and tarts, I like that it's not as sweet as other pastries from elsewhere. Prices are reasonablely lower too, budget about SGD $25 for a 2 course meal here.

The Lemonade Original (SGD $6) is a great thirst quencher, with a good sour strength, yet isn't too overwhelming. Very refreshing and easy to drink, I only wish they would chill it slightly more so it's colder!

The Eggs Neptune (SGD $18.50) is served with hand formed, house special crab cakes, on thin, toasted English muffins, topped with perfectly poached runny eggs, and a creamy hollandaise sauce. Love the tasty deshelled crab cakes, which aren't dry, and the combination of runny egg yolks with the muffins! A delightful dish!

The Classic Red Velvet Cupcake (SGD $3.50) has a tasty raspberry vanilla cupcake topped with fresh, thick cream cheese frosting, very lovely, not too sweet or heavy.

The Salted Gula Melaka Cupcake (SGD $3.50) is like a cupcake version of the Malay Onde-Onde Kueh, with a sweet Gula Melaka / palm sugar filling within a fragrant pandan / screwpine leaf cupcake, topped with salted Gula Melaka / palm sugar, dessicated coconut, and a luscious cream cheese.

Sugar Rush

One of the first thing that comes to my mind when I see the word "Butterstudio" is butter (not buttermilk). Indeed, this Halal Cafe located in the Jalan Besar has won fans for its cupcakes and other pastries. However, it is also cosy place that offers brunch items like egg benedicts and pancakes. Full story on http://www.dairycream.blogspot.com

The Signature Red Velvet Cake ($7.90/slice) is drizzled with salted caramel for that savoury balance. The cake is moist and tender but the efforts were rendered futile by the intense sweetness evident in both the cake and the cream cheese. These seemed to be the case for the cupcakes and jar cakes, which were a pity because they looked good and stirred my excitement initially.

However, the Sea Salt Nutella Tart was an instant winner with a crisp shortcrust shell and rich creamy Nutella. The addition of salt magically brought the Nutella to an optimal sweetness.

Great cafe to relax

Had a date with my girlfriend there through a reservation. It was hard finding a parking slot nearby so we parked few streets away. When we entered the café, the first thing attracted us was the cupcakes/cakes display. They looked awesome!! Ordered Turkey Bacon Eggs Ben for myself and Sausage Lover's Platter for my girlfriend for dinner. We had to wait awhile for the food to arrive but it was definitely worth it when it arrived. For drinks, she had Homemade Iced Lemon Tea and Vanilla Fluffy for myself. Value was $39 for all of these. For desserts, we had Salted Caramel Red Velvet Cake and also Belgian Chocolate. Cost was $14. A bit tad expensive but these two items were so good! So sweet!! Ambience and service was great. Gave us that 'Singaporean' feel. And we had better service than a lot of other places we went, not that the others are bad, but the service here was exceptionally better. In all, will return for more food! And will definitely recommend it to other people!
