| A nice hangout, very average food
The sign at the front screams 'Come on in!', describing an array of nifty nibbles, divine desserts and tantalising thirst quenchers. Once entering the cafe, I was 'colour-shocked' by its pink flowery wallpaper. I was thinking this place has a real tiny interior. But behold when we stepped inside. The backyard behind reveals another world of bamboo, log tables and wooden benches. As we visited at night, the backyard was lighted with candles placed strategically all over. The wisp of burning mosquito coils is evident in the air to scare away the mozzies. One side of the wall is totally glassed, seemingly to cast extended images of the narrow backyard to give a less claustrophobic feel. The backyard is quite narrow and closed door to the interior did not help to make it airy. Fortunately standfans are on hand to give that artificial breeze. This probably explains the no smoking policy at the backyard. So do utilise the two funky chairs at the front of the cafe with its retro dustbin to fill the ash.
Foodwise, the cafe mainly serves pub grub. There are things like fried chicken wings, fish fingers, ballsized hashbrowns and some chicken popcorn that taste like those from KFC. There are also the usual F&C and pizza. Nibble sets are available where you have a choice of your nibbles, drink and I scream. The pecan pie ($7) looked the most beckoning and an additional scoop of I scream adds another $2 to the tab. Though a shallow little tart, the pecan pie tasted better than it looked. The pecan nuts are on the generous side, with rich chocolate covering them. I chose to have the Peanut Butter I scream to go along with the pie and it was Nuts on Nuts! Generally the food seems to be ordinary. Well, except for the pecan pie. Hopefully other selections on the menu are better than those I had tried. There are a selection of mock and cocktails for drinks. Drinkers can also choose to open bottles of Absoluite or whiskeys that are available. There is something which is quite interesting. They have Yakult flavoured vodka. Basically its a bottle of microgerms mixed with Absolute. We tried the Orange and Apple Yakult vodkas and were not disappointed! The flavour was there and generous with the russian. They came in a cute little flask with a straw. Maybe I'll try concocting them myself next time. Service from the staff is ok. Patient with orders as we were quite undecided on the food and drinks. They provide you a little torchlight coz moonlight was insuffice.
Overall this is a nice little cafe to hang out. If you hate the smell of burning mosquito coils, this might be a problem. Personally I dun think this is quite a place for food. But for the ambience and chic, its worth coming back again. |

| "AHHHHHHHH" - i scream
It was definitely unexpected to see such a cozy little cafe hidden in Owen Rd, a little off Farrer Park MRT. If not for the tip-off from HungryGoWhere, I'd probably not know what i was missing.
The floral wallpaper under the warm lightings was the sight that greeted me when i reached the cafe a little after 9pm. As the night was rather chilly, we headed for the al-fresco area within the cafe which resembles a scene from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon with its bamboo trees and log tables/chairs. If it wasn't mystic enough, tealights are strategically placed around the courtyard for illumination.
The menu provides a reasonable selection of finger food, not really a place for a decent meal except for a hot dog or a pizza, which then again, can be considered finger food. But it's a perfect place to chill and wind down after dinner over some sides and drinks.
We shared the Nibbles Set - which you can choose the desired finger food/drink/i-scream for just $13.50, our choice:
Domus Wings, Strawberry Italian Fizzi (+$1) and Nutella Delight w/ Oreos I-Scream.
The Domus Drumlets (they ran out of wings) was good, well-marinated and fried... but not to the extent where it's dry and hard, just tender enough to clean out the meat from the bone with one hungry bite.
The Strawberry Fizzi - dash of strawberry in soda water wasn't as exciting as i hope it will be, but a good companion with the mouth-watering drumlets.
Nutella Delight I-Scream though, was a disappointment... disappointed that the scoop was soooooooo small for something that taste so awfully GOOD! I'm quite sure the rest of the I-Screams are equally good, if not better, so the Monday I-Scream Buffet ($10) that i read about is a great perk for those suffering Monday Blues.
If the food isn't enough to entice you, i'm sure the ambiance is captivating enough to house you and your mates for a cozy evening. ~Thumbs up~ |

| A cosy stylish hideaway
The moment you enter Cafe Domus, you can't help but have your breath taken away by its decor at the front space. Lined top to bottom with a kitsch yet oddly cool wallpaper, you will find yourself wandering in just to explore the rest of the space.
Not the easiest place to find, therefore it gives the cafe that extra special feeling of almost stumbling onto a little secret hideaway.
Open till 3am on weekends, its a great place to unwind and chill after a heavy dinner. Its not exactly a place for main courses or super filling meals but they make a darn good plate of fried chicken wings and their drinks are pretty decent too.
The highlight however, would be their I-SCREAMS. Home made goodness at its best, they come with pretty creative names and a must try would be the Peanut Butter concoction and my personal fave, the kaya favored mix.
And if you are feeling blue on a Monday evening, their $10 all-you-can-eat I-SCREAM buffet would be sure to put a cheer to a bad day at work.
Its rare to find a chic looking place in Singapore without it being packed with a pretentious vibe and a more pretentious crowd. Oddly enough, this place is relaxing enough for you and your friends to literally unwind to the point where they would find it easy to open up and talk about the intimate and heartfelt things that only close friends would talk about.
A great place to bring your date too. |

| Social Media Breakfast: S2
Social Media Breakfast 2: Singapore is held at Cafe Domus, a very cool cafe which operates only when the sun goes down, and party till late night. Luckily for us, SMB main organizer Daryl managed to get the owner of the place to open the place for us.
Cafe Domus is located at 124 Owen Road, the nearest Mrt Station is Farrer Park (NEL). The other shop houses along Owen Road is definitely not what you will expect a cafe like Domus will be located at, the area is more like a industrial area.
From the outside, this is certainly not what i had imagined the place to be like. So imagine the suprise that i got when i stepped to the back of the cafe. Wow! is the word to describe.
It seems that we have been transported into a different world all together, from the bright pink wallpaper of the cafe front with its chandelier, welcome to the natural open-space garden!
The seats are logs in case you didn’t notice, and the small bamboo shoots provided cover from the blazing sun. Mosquito coils are prepared on hand, to prevent any “unpleasant” incidents.
I must admit the place is really quite an eye-opener for me, its unique Al fresco area will be even better during the night, with small candles lit up all over the place, can you imagine how it will be like?
I even climb up the stairs to the upper area where there’s this small area which can seat about 4-5. Great place if you want to spend some time with your love ones and friends.
We had catered food, which was not on the usual menu. But a quick glance at their menu, they have finger food, and also home-made desserts like brownies and cakes.
Cafe Domus also serve alcohol drinks like vodka and martinis, and a wide range of other drinks. Its really a very cool place to chill out with your friends.
And if you are staying nearby, or alone the NEL, there's totally no reason for not visiting the place! Go on check them out, and do remember they only start operations at 7pm till late night.
You are always welcome to visit ladyironchef for a full-up on this trip. Whatever written herein are my genuine feelings expressed in words that may be subjected to my personal distortion or biasness. Feel free to furnish me with comments, may it be positive or negative : ) |

| Quiet Hideaway
Cafe Domus is tucked away in an unassuming row of shophouses on Owen road near Little India.
This tiny space was designed by Mo-X (Metropolitan Office Experimental). It's a little hard to find cos nowhere does it scream, " THERE'S A CAFE HERE!"
Peer through the glass shop window and you see vintage flowered wallpaper and you might think this was an interior design company.
The Courtyard opens up another quaint little space altogether, shrouded by Bamboo trees ( i think you can still get wet when it rains) with low 'logs' for tables and benches and eclectic lamps give this place an enchanting glow. The floor is covered with pebbles, so ladies, wear your flats! The wall is cleverly camouflaged by a full length mirror which belies its otherwise very small narrow space in the courtyard. A spiral staircase at the back lit with candlelight adds a certain mystique and interesting feature to this place. Altoghether it gives one a feeling of being transported back to ancient China where pugilists will gather for a flask of wine and chess.
This is really a bar, i think coz they serve bar bites and desserts. I had the tasting platter where i can choose 3 of the bites.
I had the chicken cheese balls, the potato with cheese balls, and the fried chicken wings.
It was served with a sweet chili sauce.
I liked the chicken wings best - it was well fried to a golden brown. The batter was tasty and slightly spicy. The chicken meat retained its juiciness and freshness. Quite good to go with beer.
All in all i think the food was okay - I don't think it required great culinary skill to fry everything in hot oil and anything with cheese is a great shoo-in.
They have a desert menu too, with some cheesecakes.
They serve a variety of cocktails and martinis and beers. I had the Japanese slipper which is probably a mixture of Midori and lime. Not bad, quite refreshing.
I like the place for it's nice private ambience but i think they can expand on their food and drinks list to make it truly a cafe-bar. Also, place is very tiny, so do make reservations to ensure a seat.
Parking is along the road, URA, make sure you have coupons |
