| Most horrible experience!!
I've always been a fan of Iguana's margarita...totally addictive! Very solid drinks! Not stingy with their alcohol...think the complimentary corn chips with salsa is GREAT! Goes well with the margarita perfectly.
Food is SUPERB too. The quasedillas and fajitas...yummy!
When it comes the food and drinks part, no doubt cafe iguana scores high on the chart. That's why the place is forever crowded. Perhaps that's the reason why they are so complacent and see no need to have any service to speak off!
Totally disgusted with the service we were rendered at our last visit! Brought some tourist friends there even! Can you imagine my embarrassment! The staff are so rude and no smiles can be found on their face. In fact they gave us a pissed off look! We weren't even being rude!
Last week we were there early for a quick drink after a meeting. In fact that's the don't-know how many times we're there at that time since we've always meet there till 5plus. The cafe's open physically. The staff however were all seated at a corner for some staff meeting. A lady came to us and said they're only open at 6. That's 15mins away. We were already very upset coz she insisted they're always open at 6 when we very well had been there many times at 5plus. We wanted to just sit there and wait since its only 15mins away. She told us rudely to go over to Brewerks instead! WHAT?!
We insisted that we wanted margarita thats why we're there! For what we go brewerks! We said we just wanted to sit there. We can wait. She told us all the tables are reserved! We said we're only going to be for a while. Just a quick drink. Very sure we'll be done by 6.30. That's what we always do. She insisted that her customers will come before that. She shoo us down to the bottom where tables are available. FINE.
So we literally waited there while the staff talked in a corner. I think good service is providing a menu and water while we wait! NONE! They totally ignored us! ok. fine since we're the ones wanting to wait. But come 6pm, NOBODY came still! When we went to get the staff again, she unwillingly came to us with the menu, rudely took down our orders.
Totally pissed off with the non-existence service...how can a service staff looks so pissed off! Do we owe them a living! The whole time we were there, we could see her gossiping and sneering at our tables to her other staff. you can tell by the body language, come on! super unprofessional!
Anyway, we did finish our drinks by 6.30! And all the tables she said will be filled by them ARE STILL EMPTY! really bullshit! I didnt get the staff's name but she's the indian lady. think some supervior or something. gosh! you're supposed to be a leader of your service staff and this is the kind of model you are! total crap! the staff meeting before operation is probably some talk on how the staff should provide service i would imagine. But you jolly well did the opposite while having that meeting!
That's the last time i'm going there. Don't see why i have to put up with this crap service! Disgusted! I think there are much better bars around! |

| A Taste of Mexico, without a Huge Hole in the Pocket
The whole of Marina-Suntec area was closed for the F1 Night Race last weekend, as such, everyone flocked down to Clarke Quay/ Boat Quay/ Riverside Walk etc. for dinner instead. It was a madhouse crowd of people.
We made reservations for Café Iguana almost 3 weeks in advanced and boy, the restaurant was already swinging in full capacity when we arrived at 7pm. Not to mention that some of us came late so the service crew was constantly asking if our other ‘empty’ tables were truly empty. We almost had to chain ourselves to the table to prevent anyone from removing them.
Unable to counter our pre-matured hunger, some of us went straight for the menu and placed our orders. For 3 persons, we got ourselves a Portobello Fajitas, Grilled Chicken Fajitas & Shredded Steak Burritos.
We were completely wow-ed by the Fajitas!! Talk about sizzling hot!! The oil was still popping around on the hotplate!! Although the ‘brown bean’ sauce was missing, but coupled with salsa sauce etc., the fajitas were really good!! A little disappointing was perhaps, coz we were eating while waiting for other colleagues to arrive, the flour tortilla wraps cooled too quickly and hardened a little. =(
Oh boy, I absolutely loved the Portobello, but unfortunately the portion was a little small. The Grilled Chicken had sufficient flavour but after cooling a little, it got a little tough for chewing as well.
One big charmer of the evening was the Shredded Steak Burritos. Absolute worth of your money, with hefty servings of shredded steak!! Coupled with lime-scented cilantro rice, borracho beans and cheddar mozzarella, it was absolutely fabulous!! After the Fajitas, we were actually pretty stuffed, but with such a wonderful serving in front of us, we completed the dish with satisfaction.
Being well-behaved citizens for the evening, we gave the alcoholic drinks a miss, but went instead for mocktails i.e. Virgin Margarita (Mango). Not too bad, whereby the mango taste was significant. =)
A pretty pleasant visit, despite visiting washrooms, which were way too cramped, thus making it a complete hazard for head injuries. Sitting outside saved us from having to shout at each other too much and one will get to enjoy the full view (almost) of Clarke Quay and a part of Singapore River, especially since the River Festival was running last weekend, it was quite a sight to see the river boats dolled up.
Definitely one Mexican restaurant with an affordable price range, with good food and preventing a hole in the pocket.
Conclusion?? A definite must-return!! =) |

| one tough Iguana
Don't expect to eat well.
The ambience and beverages were fine if you like noisy lively places. I like food, and if the food does not cut it then there's no real reason for me to go back. And I'm not one for a liquid meal.
I ordered a "tender" beaf fajitas as a main, and it was so tough I had to go and get a tatoo before taking another bite. If I wasn't with company, I would have sent the brick back, however it's not always the best thing to do if one wants to eat at remotely the same time as the people sitting with them. Yes - there were 4 of us, and the meals did not arrive at the same time.
There's better places out there! Try Margarita's on the east Coast. |

| for those who dare to try something different
I should say, if you are not familiar with mexican food, i recommend you try the Fajitas - grilled chicken or Burritos.
Generally, the food is a bit spicy. If you love spicy food, go for this. I love spicy food, so it has never been a problem for me.
the portion is huge and you may consider buy one main dish and one salad for two persons. That will be enough. Price is not cheap.
The service, by far has been good. Once i ordered something and it was so salty, and they straight offered me to choose whatever I want and didnt charge the food at all. No big fight nor argument, and I was pleased with the attitude. |

| So-so
Came here with a friend who has patronised the place quite a few times before. It was a Friday night and very crowded. We got a small table at a corner on the sidewalk.
Service was alright. The staff were attentive but they seemed to get a little impatient with us for not wanting to order more drinks. We had a jug of magarita between the two of us and being girls, we took a longer time to drink it. A senior-looking waiter kept refilling our glasses whenever they were still 3/4 full. And finally he asked us to finish it as he needed the jug. How nice.
the food was so-so only. We ordered the chicken burrito and beef chimichanga. Portion was filling and we couldn't finish our food (probably due to the magaritas that we were forced to finish quickly!). Taste was alright, but I've had better at El Patio in Holland V.
They charge for extra salsa, which i guess is understandable. But if you're there with friends and just wanna sip margaritas and munch on chips and salsa, it kinda leave a bad taste in your mouth that you have to pay for that small dish of salsa.
The only reason I'd come back here again would be for the booze. |
